I don't like to ask for help and are uncomfortable doing it but unfortunately I need help.

My dad, Charles Green passed away on Saturday May 12, 2018. He has been battling stomach and esophagus cancer stage 3 for the past year, doing chemo and radiation. During that time, he had gotten an infection from his feeding tube and had to have emergency surgery to remove 8 inches of his intestines. He then proceeded to finish his chemo and radiation. During this time, he could not lay down, eat and had lost so much so much weight, over 50lbs!

On March 29, 2018, he went into to Hartford Hospital in Connecticut for surgery to remove the mass in his stomach. After a 10 hour surgery, He was in ICU for 2 weeks where he developed pneumonia. He had appeared to get better and he was sent home on Thursday April 12th. The next day, he was having chest pains where he couldn't breathe and an ambulance was called. He was in AFIB and blood pressure was very high. He was brought to Backus Hospital in Connecticut and unfortunately needed to be intubated and put on 100% oxygen.

Because Backus is a smaller hospital, they needed to transfer him to Hartford. His heart rate continued to be high and the AFIB continued. He was not following commands and they told us it was best that we come asap to say our goodbyes. He held on and with new medicines he was critical but stable. He needed a chest tube in to drain some of the fluid on his lungs. He seemed to be a little better after that, they were able to go down on the vent to 40 and  at one point, he had opened his eyes, following commands and even watched a little tv. Unfortunately, the viral pneumonia was not clearing up and after two more chest tunes, he had already gone back to 100% on the respirator. They were doing what they could but his lungs were in bad shape plus his body was not strong enough to fight it. God took him home,

My dad was a strong man. He was funny, kind and smart. He could play the guitar like he was in a rock band. He knew had to fix anything. We loved to camp, 4 wheel on the beach, fish, and he loved his family and friends. Maybe time had gotten away from everyone and didn't get to see each other, but please remember the fond memories of him and hold them dear to your heart.  I loved my dad, he was the first man I loved and I will always be his little girl.

He is being cremated and we will be holding a military service on June 15, 2018 at Middletown, CT,  VA cemetery. Even though some costs will covered by the military like his plot, headstone and the flag, we need to pay for the service of the Aurora-McCarthy funeral home, cremation fee, transportation of the body and a medical examiner fee because he did have a pacemaker. Please donate whatever you can, it will make all the difference.

Thank you for all of your kind words and prayers during this difficult time.
