Charlene's Flood Cleanup and Move
I am Charlene, Surviving Spouse of SSGT John F. Campisi, the first Casualty of the Persian Gulf War, killed 12 Aug 1990. This information is important as to why I am having to raise money to pay for the cleanup of my personal property in the basement and move all of my property from the house I had been renting for 5 years. After the Nebraska Flood of 13 March 2019. The house I was renting and I refer to in this story, is in Offutt AFB Privitized Housing which is run by a contracted company "Rising View". The day this happened we had to evacuate the house as it was filling with water and mud and the foundation was crumbling. I asked the Director when they would be moving me and she laughed and said we aren't moving you, we only move Active Duty! I honestly was shocked that the house I had been renting and per the Director was condemned from the floodwaters and they would not move me. I told her that I was a military widow who's husband was killed in the war and when this happened we were stationed here at Offutt AFB, and lived in base housing. I asked multiple times for assistance and they finally gave me $500 which does not move an entire household. At this point I was so frustrated and I decided to contact the military to see if they could assist. They did, there were volunteers and rented a construction dumpster approximately 3/4 full of my property I now need to replace. We worked that day as long as we were able and I am truly thankful for everything they have done for me. Now I ask that you please help me finish this move so I am able to move to my new rental with all of my property and clean or replace what I must. I appreciate and thank you for anything you can provide so I am able to get on with my life.+ Read More
My find of the day....I was looking around to find a place to start today and out of the mud by one of the fallen walls I could see the corner of this frame. I knew the very special photo that was in that frame....my Great Grandparents and their children, one of which is my Grandmother! I crawled across the broken wall and pulled the frame from the mud and dug around until I found the photo and glass. They were in mud and not water so it will be able to be cleaned and hung back up on our family gallery wall.
