We're Team Gel, the US National Adult Developmental Boomerang Team, and we are thrilled to announce our participation in the 2026 Boomerang World Championships in Bandung, Indonesia! After an incredible return to the world stage at the 2024 Boomerang World Championships in Denver, Colorado, where we showcased our skills and determination after a 35-year hiatus, we're ready to take on the world once again.

Our mission is simple yet vital: to introduce new and talented throwers to the boomerang community and keep this unique sport thriving for years to come. As we prepare to represent the United States developmental team in Indonesia, we need your support to make this dream a reality.

On April 14, 2022, the United States Boomerang Association announced that, for the first time in the sport's history, they would be sending an all-youth boomerang team (under 18) to the World Boomerang Championship (WBC) in Bordeaux, France on August 15-25th. Unlike in other international sports, the U.S. Youth Team will compete directly against the best professional boomerang throwers in the world. The goal of the youth team is to give these young athletes the experience and education needed to become the world champions of tomorrow.

In addition to teaching sportsmanship and general health, the USBA places a strong emphasis on science, technology, and art. Kids are taught important principles of physics when learning how to design, make, and throw their competition boomerangs. We place a strong emphasis on diversity and inclusion. There is a place for everyone in the sport of boomerangs. Female athletes compete on the same team as male athletes and are consistently among the top finishers at every world cup. The organization fosters an empowering environment for children to build self-esteem while allowing them to compete on the world stage. The U.S. Youth Team will interact with children from around the globe and make long-lasting friendships for the remainder of their lives.

In the United States, the sport of modern boomerang throwing began after the publication of a 1968 Scientific American article and subsequent yearly educational workshops held by the Smithsonian Institute on the National Mall in Washington, DC. These workshops introduced countless people to the art and science of making and throwing boomerangs.

This resurgence in interest led to the creation of the non-profit United States Boomerang Association (USBA) and the birth of the World Team and Individual Boomerang Championships (WBC).

The U.S. has participated in the WBC since the first World Cup was held between the United States and Australia in 1987. Traditionally, the U.S. sends two national teams to the WBC, which is held every two years, the U.S. Youth Team will make three all-American teams for 2022. The U.S. team is vying to defend their WBC team title earned at the 2018 WBC in Albuquerque, New Mexico (The 2020 World Cup was postponed to 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic).

As a non-profit seeking to provide youth with opportunities for education, health, and cultural awareness through boomerangs, the USBA has decided to set up a GoFundMe page to help youth competitors and coaches with expenses (including required travel, lodging, uniforms, tournament fees, and equipment). We have set a goal of $15,000. All donations are 50% tax-deductible.
