Cycle for Education - College for Low Income Kids
Hi! Welcome to Cycle for Education!
We live in a place (Oakland, CA) where the transition from high school to college happens little over 50% of the time, and 57% of the time this is for socioeconomic reasons - lack of resources and access.
Due to Covid, annual fundraising efforts of one of the key foundations that raises funds to send low income kids to college in Oakland (Oral Lee Brown Foundation ) have been cancelled.
We, a team of 5 diverse cyclists, are riding 465mi from the San Francisco Bay Area to Los Angeles from 2 October to 7 October 2021 to raise funds and awareness for College Education Scholarships and programs for kids of low income families of the programs of the Oral Lee Brown Foundation !
Join us in giving low income kids access to College! ...by raising half the funds by 2 October and the second half by 7 October! :-) Our whole community benefits from education! We thank you so much for your support!
Our Cyclist Daishar Young, (Oakland) shares " I received my first scholarship for college from the Oral Lee Brown Foundation when I was in 6th grade. The foundation gave me hope as a young kid growing up in East Oakland that college was attainable. Since then, the foundation has been a big part of my life." Daishar now sits on the foundation's alumni board. He holds a graduate degree from the University of Michigan and his work includes Merrill Lynch. Since COVID has canceled OLB annual fundraising efforts, he had been trying to find creative ways to raise funds - and the Cycle for Education was born!
