✈️ PUPS OVER THE PACIFIC – Help Us Fly 20 Dogs to New Homes!

We’re Action 4 Animals Hawaii, and this April, we're working hard to fly 15 puppies to Oregon and 5 dogs to Montreal, Canada as part of our Pups Over the Pacific campaign! These dogs are coming from the County of Hawaii Animal Control and Protection, and their journeys are only possible thanks to the support of kind donors like you.

Flights, health certificates, boarding, crate bowls, van rentals, and returning crates all add up—and your donation helps us cover it all. Even $20 helps buy crate bowls or a leash and collar set. Action 4 Animals Hawaii (A4A) partners with Hawaii County of Animal Control and Protection, a high-kill shelter, to adopt, foster, or fly-out as many dogs and cats as possible. A4A is strictly volunteer-based. In 2024 alone we have adopted out almost 100 dogs and over 400 cats. Our A4A Doggie Brigade has bimonthly adoption events, we train the dogs in our care basic leash manners and commands; and take them weekly to Kukini Agility for socialization and fun with obstacles.

There is a dire overpopulation of unwanted dogs and cats on our island. As a last resort, we undertake these complicated and expensive journeys to save dogs that are extremely affectionate, playful and show aptitude in training. West Coast rescues take many of our under-3-month-old puppies but dogs over 6 months are at high risk for euthanasia. Our phenomenal rescue partners in Montreal have taken our Hawaiian dogs for several years, placing them with fosters until permanent homes are found. Once they leave Hawaii, their shelter days are over!!! The journey and expense is worth it for these 7 dogs!!! Aloha! I am one of the founders of Action4Animals Hawaii and we have partnered with Hawaii County Animal Control and Protection Services, a high-kill shelter, to find homes for as many dogs and cats as possible through adoption events, social media, fostering, educational initiatives, and fly-outs. Hawaii Island has lax animal welfare regulations and too many backyard breeders resulting in massive numbers of unwanted, abused, and neglected dogs -and cats - that end up at Animal Control. A4A, which is volunteer-based only, adopted out 523 cats and over 60 dogs in 2023. With your help, we flew out 12 dogs and 2 cats last year. Here we go again with these 6 dogs who got a second chance at life. Our partner rescues in Quebec and Ontario have stepped up to receive these absolutely pawesome dogs!! Sophie's Dog Adoption, Marwa's International Dog Rescue, Winnie's Dog Rescue and For the Love of Dogs Ottawa will be taking these A4A dogs that we scooped from animal control and have been working with for the last few months. The dogs will travel across the island to Kona, fly to Seattle where they spend the night, then arrive in Boston where Petra's Dog Adoption and For the Love of Dogs Vermont will transport them to Montreal. This is a HUGE journey filled with love and hope for Loki, Rooster, Eva, Mackenzie, Biscuit and Mele! Their shelter days are coming to an end as they are all going into foster homes until they get adopted. Be part of their story as they went from euthanasia, to countless days in kennels, to finally knowing a comfy bed, warmth, consistent attention and best of all - WALKS (possibly at a cafe), TOYS, and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. Please help us raise money for Action 4 Animals Hawaii in Sheryl Sudman's honor. As many of you know, Sheryl was a self-described "animal girl." She loved her furry family like children. Sheryl's whole life was surrounded by animals - cats, dogs, bunnies, horses, birds and more. Animals were drawn to Sheryl's vibrant and maternal soul; she had a special and unique way of connecting with them. Sheryl had a dream to create a cat sanctuary on the Big Island of Hawaii to help the many cats on the island have a safe place to call home.

On Sheryl's 60th birthday, June 16, 2023, she was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. Sheryl passed away only two months later, on August 17, 2023. Upon diagnosis, Sheryl immediately jumped into action to obtain treatment and was fortunate to be seen by the world-renowned pancreatic cancer team at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Unfortunately, pancreatic cancer is typically not detected until it is already at a very advanced stage and is incredibly hard to treat effectively. Despite the life-changing news that Sheryl received, she greeted every doctor, nurse, advocate, and person around her with grace and kindness. Her ability to exude empathy, strength, and love on her hardest days was miraculous to witness. She will forever be a beacon of love and light in so many lives.

Action 4 Animals Hawaii is a group of volunteers, fosters, and big-hearted animal lovers located on the Big Island of Hawaii.
