PROGRAM BACKGROUND

The "Compass + Chance Fund”, provides scholarships, social education/learning for students and creates gateways to innovative careers through STEM.

We do this by engaging Junior High, High School, and college students (ages 13-21) to opportunities/chances for them to escape poverty via education, specifically through STEM and engineering programs.

The Compass + Chance program exposes students to engineering and STEM possibilities by taking them on trips to high schools and universities in the U.S. and abroad. Through cultural and educational exchanges, students are able to learn from each other and identify with like-minded young adults who aspire to similar career paths.

Correspondingly, the Compass + Chance Fund provides experiential learning that demonstrates how participating students are apart of a global economy. Our work not only engages low income junior high through high school students but it also educates adults in the broader community on the role of STEM as a gateway to new horizons that change the life outcomes of students, families and communities.

By doing so, we answer the question "What price tag would you put on an opportunity for someone to rise above their life-long obstacles?" None of these young lives are worth such a price and we directly demonstrate such via the opportunities available to them through STEM as an effective educational platform for endless personal and professional possibilities.

Wanted to share the reports I did for United Methodist Global Ministries and how I used a $10,000 grant to help students. The reports detail outcomes from trips to Rio, Cape Town and Johannesburg. Can't thank you enough for your support and what we accomplished because of you. You can access both reports by clicking this link http://www.romaltune.com/international/ #ChanceFund

Thanks again for all your support. I wanted to bring you up to date on my projects. (1) Fundraising to send Lonnie, a graduate student in aerospace engineering at FIT, to Cape Town for spring break on a cultural exchange; (2) Working with partners to build a kitchen at Willow Crescent High School in Johannesburg; and (3) Organizing a trip to take 12 college students to Cape Town for a week to discern their calling and using their gifts to teach in SA for two years after graduation. As I’ve said before, we’re doing a lot with a little. Every contribution makes difference.

We are doing a lot with a little. Thanks to supportive friends, a partnership between UMC Global Missions and Faith For Change, I returned to South Africa. Because of your donations we were able to present Lavender Hill High School with a donation that will assist with providing tutors, lunch, and meals for after schools programs. By simply providing food, they have seen a 25% decrease in the dropout rate this year. Lavender Hill is a neighborhood known as "gangland." Your support is helping to keep kids off the streets, out of gangs and in school. ‪Next up we are working to help Willow Crescent High School in Johannesburg build a kitchen. Currently the students do not receive any meals during the school day. A kitchen where parents and other schools supports can prepare meals will mean so much to these students and their ability to concentrate in class without worrying about food. Thanks for your donations and giving students a chance. Please share the campaign and ask others to support the #ChanceFund

Wanted to share some great news! During my trip to Cape Town last Nov. I met with several organizations. One of which was Bold Empowerment (a high school dropout prevention org). After returning to the States, I connected with Regina Henderson of Global Ministries and introduced her to Bold Empowerment as a potential partner. It's been about six months since that initial trip and I just found out that Global Mission Fellow, Krystal Norman, is going to spend a year in Cape Town with Bold Empowerment. Krystal is a young leader who aspires to empower other young people worldwide. It's a blessing to see how following my dream to help students has opened a door for someone else to do the same. Thank you for your support of the Compass and Chance Fund. Your contributions are making a difference in the lives of many.

Project Producers: Dominique Flagg for I Am Root Co. Desiree White for Painted Soul Art in Motion is an extension of the AIM Campaign, which is a creative push/call to action to inspire artists and creators to use their talents to help make an impact inside of their neighboring communities or globally. So through the #AIMCAMPAIGN we asked some artists to make a 15 sec video saying their name and what impactful things they aimed to do with their art. We gathered some crazy talents from throughout Arizona, to put on a really great night. The event featured Select Music by DJ Godzilla, Performed Music by Desiree White and the Painted Soul Band, Special Guest Performers, Featured Acts, and more.
