Chad’s Story

For too many years, Chad Killick has been fighting a difficult and mysterious lung affliction that has now become life threatening.  Together with the support of his wife Kerri and young daughter Sadie-Gray they continue to fight to improve his health and are enlisting the support of their broader community of friends and family.

Over the past few years, Chad has had many severe asthma events requiring trips to the local ER for treatments.  As his breathing issues deepened, Chad and Kerri continued to see doctors and specialists looking for an answer to his increasing difficulty in breathing.  Chad’s problems with breathing became so severe that he eventually became dependent on oxygen, and needing more of it as his lung capacity decreased.

In November 2018, respiratory specialists at McMaster University Medical Centre [and elsewhere], determined that Chad would likely need to undergo a double lung transplant to resolve his respiratory issues.  In mid-December, Chad and Kerri met with Toronto General Hospital’s Transplant Program team where he was given a diagnosis for his severe breathing issues:  They were told that Chad has Bronchiolitis Obliterans – a.k.a. popcorn lung, or constrictive bronchiolitis, a chronic illness that would only get worse over time.  Chad’s case was beyond treatment and he was placed on an accelerated plan to prepare him for transplant.

Simply put:  Chad needs your help.  First and foremost he needs your continuing prayer for peace and continued faith that he will be healed.  He also needs your support as you may be moved to help in practical and in financial ways.  Chad’s ability to work will soon become unrealistic, as he undergoes medical assessments and his condition worsens. This will place obvious financial strains on him and his family. In addition to the loss of his income, out-of-pocket expenses will increase rapidly due to medical assessments, therapies and procedures that will require Chad and Kerri to travel between St. Catharines and Toronto on a regular basis. Those who know Chad will know that he does not easily ask for help of any sort, but in these times he and his family are in significant need.

Please think about how you can show your support for Chad and Kerri at this most difficult time in their lives.  While a financial gift is one way to show your support, any other heart felt gesture would be greatly appreciated – with your prayers being on the top of the list.

Thank you for your time in reading Chad’s Story and for any support you choose to provide.
