Team Silas - Winning Team Needs Your Help!

Hello! My name is Eric, and by most accounts I am your average middle-aged North American male, but this story is not about me, it is about my little cousin, Silas Peyre. See, up until last week, Silas was your awesome, inquisitive, adventure seeking 4-year-old little big-boy. But last week he received news that drastically changed life for Silas and his family, the doctors found cancer on his kidney and lungs. Drastic changes – so quickly!

From Carefree to Cancer:
At first the doctors were hoping the cancer was in an isolated place and that the tumor(s) could be removed in one operation. However, after a full body analysis, size of his tumor, and spots on his lungs he will have to undergo chemotherapy and radiation treatments in hopes to reduce the size and rapid spread of the cancer before they will be able to remove his affected kidney.

At this point, it is believed it is a Wilms tumor which I was assured was “good news” because it has been known to be successfully treatable. Silas will have 11 weeks of chemo with the last several weeks with radiation as well. After the 11 weeks he will be scheduled a surgery to remove his kidney. The total treatment and recovery time for young Silas is a minimum of 25 weeks. 25 weeks…almost a half a year!

The Need:
If you were a parent with a sick child, where would you need to be? My guess is that you would say with your child, spending every precious moment you could with him, being the physical and emotional strength your child needed at every moment you could. This is what Silas’ parents decided to do even if it meant financial hardship. Silas’ mother is on unpaid FMLA leave and his father has a government job lined up for him at the end of January. Meaning, right now there is no income and only a small amount of savings to hold them through.

Silas does not come from a family of means or privilege; instead, he comes from a hard-working family that earns their pay and pays their bills. Right now, though, they need your help! New medically necessary needs and bills are starting to pile up: gas, food, daily parking, and, because of the doctor’s strong recommendations, a room in his home that he will be best able to heal (new rug, mattress, paint). However, a big family concern is the loss of income.

If you are able, please help a worthy family during their greatest time of need.  If you can't help financially, PLEASE send positive thoughts, prayers, and, of course, share this appeal on your fb feed, emails, word of mouth, or any other way you can think of. Everyone’s help is so important!

Best Wishes to you and your family!
