In March of this year The Ceyvha dance group were given a unique and wonderful opportunity. We met a group of S.T.E.M. students and faculty from Massey University's Puhoro S.T.E.M. academy from New Zealand. This academy gives high school age Maori children a greater opportunity to get education in the realm of Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics. This program is such a life giving initiative for many native children.
Through the time we spent together we connected in very deep ways. We fell in love with these people and the beautiful culture of the Maori. In April we received an invitation from the academy to join them in December in celebrating the graduation of their senior class. As part of the invitation we have an opportunity to tour New Zealand and visit different "Marai" or community meeting houses to meet Maori people from all over the country. This is an opportunity to share cultural experiences and connect with another indigenous nation in a rare and exciting way.
Traveling to New Zealand and joining together with these wonderful people is a glorious chance to strengthen ties with a first nations culture. This will be a life changing experience for us as a family.
The Ceyvha dance group is without words to express how honored we are that this invitation has been extended to us. We desire very deeply to represent the First Nations people of the Americas in New Zealand this December. But we cannot do this alone. We need help raising the necessary resources to fund this trip.
