Cervical Cancer Changed Our Life

Hello Everyone,
Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to read my story. I hope that this will touch most of you and even if it is just prayers that works too. We are not ones to ask for money but money is getting really tight right now and I have been out of work for almost 9 weeks.

Here is my story....
On August 27th I woke up in my normal routine to get ready for work when I noticed I was spotting, I didn't think much of it at the time and as the morning progressed on the bleeding got heavier and it was starting to scare me. I proceeded on with my morning, got the kids up and dressed for school, did all our morning stuff, and went to leave to take the kids to their sitter so I could go to work when all of the blood just gushed down my legs. To say the least I was a little freaked out I came inside called my boss right away and called my OBGYN to see what I needed to do.

I got in to see the OBGYN that day and she did an exam (not a pap smear =( which this could have been caught a few days sooner) she proceeded to tell me that because of my birth control (nexaplon) that the lining of my uterus was thinning and that was causing the bleeding. She proceeded to tell me that if the bleeding got heavier to go to the ER if it was after hours and to take the birth control pill for the next 30 days. If symptoms worsen call immediately. That same night August 27th I ended up in the ER because the bleeding was so bad it would not stop. The ER would not do anything but fluids and send me home. The following day August 28th, 2018 I called the OBGYN again to let them know what had happen through the night and they said that they had to wait for the records to get sent over to them so that they could proceed, once they received them they would call me and let me know so they could further discuss what to do. August 29, 2018 I finally get back to the OBGYN and they scheduled an internal ultrasound and a checkup appointment. At this appointment they finally decided to do a pap smear (which should have been done at the first appointment). At this appointment they decided to put some crème where the bleeding was happening at to try and slow the bleeding down. They also informed me at this appointment that they wanted to do a D&C that Thursday to control the bleeding. I went in on Thursday to have the D & C done and while in there the doctor stopped because what he thought was a fibroid on my cervix ended up "looking" way worse and had vessels growing from it so he did not continue with the surgery he biopsied the "fibroid" and told my husband that we would have to wait for pathology to get back to us before we could continue on. So then the weekend arrives and the bleeding started to get heavier so I ended back up at the ER and once again was told there was nothing that we could do and they sent me home again. I tried to go back to work on September 4th  and I made it through that day, September 5th I made it half the day and had to leave again because of gushing blood that once again I could not get under control.

I left work on the 5th and I called the OBGYN right away, they got me in as soon as possible. They expedited my results for the pathology report from the D & C . While I was at the office the results came in and that is when I found out that what they thought was a fibroid was actually CERVICAL CANCER. It was a tumor (that could have been caught from day 1 if the pap smear was done!) So here I sit in the OB office and am told that I have cancer and that they are getting everything ready for me to go to see my Gynecologic Oncologist at Parkview Cancer Institute.

September 5th, 2018 I will never forget that day. That is when my whole life changed now I had this whole new battle that I have to fight and I have 3 little kids and a husband that need me, I have a job that I need to be at but have not been able to because of the non stop bleeding that is from the tumor. I have undergone so many tests, PET scans, blood work, 2 surgeries, 2 ER visits, chemo treatments, radiations treatments, and so much more.

Now that we have a diagnosis, the treatments have begun and the bills have been piling up. I undergo chemo once a week, external radiation 5 times a week and I still have another procedure to undergo for internal radiation and then I will undergo 5 internal radiation treatments. I have been out of work for 9 weeks now and I am finally heading back on Monday as long as my body can handle everything.

I am not one to ask for help as many people know, but the bills are getting high, gas for going out north 5 times a week is getting crazy expensive and the bills at home are piling up, and our bank account and savings we've emptied. My husband has missed a lot of days of work to be with me because of ER visits, surgeries , and procedures that I can't drive after.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Like I said I don't like to ask but I am stressing out about the medical bills, gas, main bills, all of that stuff and I don't want my kids to worry or think that they are going to lose things because mommy has cancer and we are falling behind.

I also want to thank everyone that has prayed, sent nice messages, cards, gift cards for food, and so on... they really do help.

Thank you for reading my story, and if I could say one last thing to all the females please get your yearly pap smear, I was told that I did not need to that I could wait up to five years and I wish I would have never listened to that!

Love,
The Gordish's!
