We need your help now!!

The Mount Prospect Historical Society is working tirelessly to save Mount Prospect's 1896 Central School, a treasured one-room schoolhouse that is one of the oldest structures in town. It is well on its way to becoming once again a prominent feature of our town and an important community gathering place.

We’ve raised and expended $364,000 so far over the course of the project and made huge leaps forward in moving, renovating and restoring this incredible building. We've placed it on a new foundation, repaired the exterior, restored the roof, reinforced the floor, and installed brand new mechanical and safety systems. But there is still more to do—windows, insulation, interior walls, flooring, trim, and interior painting—before it can be used again as a community and education center.

The Village of Mount Prospect and the Mount Prospect Historical Society plan to re-enact in February 2017 the signing of the Village’s papers of incorporation, an event that occurred exactly 100 years earlier in this very building. So the time to complete the work is getting short. Your generous contribution in the next month or two will help us complete this project and allow the schoolhouse to come to life again as a community and education center.  Won’t you please help?

Our town loves this schoolhouse, and we can't wait to use it again—to connect the past and present through this remarkable structure!

ENJOY A SNEAK PEEK AT 1896 SCHOOLHOUSE UNDERGOING RESTORATION

The public is invited to walk through the 1896 one-room Central Schoolhouse which is being restored. It will be open before, during and possibly after the Mount Prospect Historical Society’s second annual outdoor Silent Movie Night which is scheduled to be held at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 19 at the museum campus, 101-103 S. Maple St., Mount Prospect. The rain date is August 20.

Besides being able to keep tabs on the restoration’s progress, you will be able to enjoy an evening of silent movies under the stars.

Silent film had no spoken dialogue. Actors used muted gestures and emphasized their body language and facial expressions so the audience could understand the feeling the actor was portraying on the screen. It was common for a pianist to play background music.

Bring your chair or blanket and sit beneath the summer night skies as the Mount Prospect Historical Society takes you back to the early days of cinema.

Movie goers will have an opportunity to purchase ice cream and water and browse through the museum store.

This is a great cause. I'm so excited because we don't have many one room schoolhouses left. I am so glad I get to donate to this.
