HELP US HOST A GRADUATION TO CELEBRATE THE WOMEN WHO HAVE COMPLETED OUR LITERACY CLASS!

Over 80 women in our program meet every week for a literacy class. We developed this class out of a heart for them to have access to more than just work - they have access to the dignity that comes with knowing how to write their own name, to read road signs, and to help their children with homework for the first time in their lives.

One group is learning the alphabet, a second group is learning to read and write, and the third group is learning basic English - all crucial skills for our women to thrive in their communities. And now, many of them will be graduating next month!

We want to celebrate these women.

Being celebrated is a luxury that most of these women have never experienced. We want them to feel valued, celebrated, and recognized.

FUNDING NEEDS:

On May 22, a team of 3 (plus 2 babies) will be traveling to the Land of a Thousand Hills for 2.5 weeks. While we are there, we need your help to:

- Host a graduation ceremony for our inaugural class of literacy students: a day full of food and family - for 300 people! This includes speeches, caps, gowns & diplomas, government officials and church leaders present, and recognition of our literacy teachers
- Grant 2 sewing machines and start-up materials to our first 2 artisan partners who have completed tailoring school to start their own businesses
- Cover in-country housing & transportation expenses

BACKGROUND:

Hands Producing Hope
is an organization, based out of Baton Rouge, whose mission is to provide the economic, educational, and spiritual resources necessary to empower remote communities to rise above poverty.

In 2016, we began a partnership with a group of women on Nkombo Island, Rwanda. We have created a program that provides a market that showcases traditional Rwandan handiwork and artisanal skills that have been passed down for generations, encourages literacy and education, and helps develop skills that will equip those in our program long after they leave. With a consistent income, our artisan partners are now able to make their dreams a reality.
