CeCe Jordan’s Fight against AK

Donation protected
As many of you may know, CeCe contracted an aggressive parasite, in both eyes, while serving at her church camp this summer. Unfortunately, she had a 1.1 in 1 million chance of contracting this amoeba in one eye. She ended up with it in both eyes, there aren’t statistics for that, it’s just so rare. This parasite, acanthamoeba, is extremely difficult to kill and CeCe has been relentlessly fighting it and suffering it’s wrath for the last 2 ½ months. She has been on a rigorous regimen of medication to kill these parasites, as well as an additional fungal infection in the left eye. This regimen requires more than 90 toxic drops placed in her eyes every day, around the clock. CeCe is fortunate to have an amazing team of cornea specialists at the University of Iowa Cornea Clinic in Iowa City. Her family was told in July that this would be a long and arduous journey, and they are just beginning to understand the reality of that. Although CeCe is so very fortunate to have the resources of Iowa City Specialists within driving distance, the Jordan family is making multiple trips to Iowa City. CeCe’s appointments are frequent, approximately every four days but additional trips are required as the special drops needed for treatment are only made in Iowa City. The bottles are small and must be made in small batches, so travel from Galesburg to Iowa City has become a well-worn path. As you know with any medical care, insurance only does so much. The compound drops are not all covered by insurance, but they are not optional in her prescribed regimen. The extra gas expense for the weekly drives is adding up with no certain end in sight. Up until recently, Julie and Dirk have managed to balance all these life changes while keeping up with their work responsibilities. On Tuesday, October 8th, the Jordan family received the devastating news that things had taken a huge turn in the wrong direction. Her right eye that had been showing signs of healing, has now regressed with the acanthamoeba growing again. The infection in her left eye has not improved and has now thinned to the point of a potential rupture. CeCe’s pain has significantly intensified. They are now preparing for a cornea transplant, very soon, in her left eye, and more intense drops are being given in an attempt to save her right eye. CeCe will begin an additional round of medications to prepare her for the transplant. At this point, Julie is no longer able to work  and needs to be available to assist CeCe full time. This family has been through so much already and the road ahead of them is long and unknown. Please consider blessing the Jordan family. If you are financially able and can find it in your heart to help ease the burden of the many expenses they are currently facing, they will be so incredibly grateful. This journey is long and hard and far from over. Any funds raised for the Jordans, over and above what is needed, will be paid forward to others suffering at the Cornea Clinic. CeCe knows that her Jesus is a Jesus of miracles. She views this journey as part of her testimony and she has already been able to imagine the amazing empathy she will have for all of the sick children she will comfort someday as a Child Life Specialist. Please bombard the heavens with prayer for this family and help them reduce some of their financial burden!
