Student Supplies (Mostly a New PC)

Donation protected
Hello all!

Well this was a GoFundMe for ALL my student supplies but I find that I'm in desperate need of a new PC before anything else so that's mostly what I want to focus on. I will explain below what I need the PC for right now and what I hope to do with it at a later date.

Well, I want to further my training in the field of Special Effects for Film and become a Creature Effects Artist that will handle both Practical Effects and Digital. My main job would be to help bring a character to life through CGI or building of animatronics, props, and creature suits to put on skilled actors.

I would handle the concept art and possibly the fully finished project (depending on how many artists are part of the team), and would cover sketching out the design (even the environment), sculpting, painting, and maybe even animating. I would be involved with others who have their own sections on said projects and would have to make sure my work would mesh well with their own.

I'm mostly self taught, taking online courses from the Stan Winston School of Character Arts/watching tutorials from other successful artists, and doing experiments with trial software to learn skills that are not being offered out of a hands on experience in a Uni.

I've taken small art commissions in the past to pay for my courses but not many people are interested in such small projects now and the money has stopped. With all the other expenses popping up left and right I've found myself without the funds to get the supplies I need in order to complete my education.

There are also no job opportunities in my area so I hope that by getting further up the chain in my schooling, I can get at least some indi-projects hiring me or a private commission to help me move to another more job secure area.

There are a great many reasons why my education is getting harder to finish on my own but the four most glaring are:

*Lack of necessary funds to cover supplies and training.

*Space to set up a work area for my digital and practical tools.

*My computer is not powerful enough to run the software I have and others I need to get. And is failing now with multiple "Blue Screens of Death" a month.

*The software I have (with the exception of ZBrush) are all trial or apprentice/personal learning editions and cannot give me what I need to make my projects really take off.

I can't really solve the space issue right now but the others can be rectified if I can get a little outside help.

What I will need to realize my dream are the following supplies:

Equipment -

Most of the tools I would need for the practical side of the effects need some major space to set up and operate, so I will only be going for the digital aspect at this time.

The most important thing would of course be a new computer.

It needs to be powerful enough to not only run the software I need for my continuing education, but do it so efficiently its almost overkill. The one I'm currently interested in is a mobile workstation from BOXX, the MXL model.

Quoted price with everything I need to run ZBrush, Keyshot, Maya, Houdini with Redshift, and Photoshop, and have a ridiculous amount of disk space to keep all my projects on the computer is just over $8,000.

That is a huge difference in price from my current rig from Toshiba which was under $5,000 at time of purchase in 2011 if I remember correctly.

I love my current machine but it just can't handle the intensely memory and processor draining concept scenes during sculpting, animating and rendering.

Crashes of Ultimate Doom to the Desktop and Blue Screens Heralding the Apocalypse are becoming more and more frequent recently and I need something that I can use as a work computer before this one dies.

I have too many heavy projects that need completing and they are on hold until I get something that can handle them.

This BOXX computer will do nothing but the work I need, not having all that extra stuff one gets for a gaming/personal computer, which is what my Toshiba rig was before I started using it for work.

I also want to get a Wacom Intuos Pro Pen & Touch to eventually replace my slowly dying Bamboo Fun Pen and Touch Medium, price varies depending on the site I visit, but $300 is a price I've seen most often for the Medium.

Software -

I need to get a full edition (licensed version) of Keyshot as I only have a trial that expired after 15 days and is only now allowing uber basic options with watermarked renders. That will be close to or over $500 for the ZBrush only version depending on the price flux on the site with their ever updating versions.

Some form of Photoshop CS is another must. Although I like my Elements 8 and 11, they both lack a lot of features I've seen used with Keyshot, ZBrush and quite a few other programs, plus it would help greatly with my digital paintings. This is free with a subscription for a cloud service, but I want to try and get a CD, non-cloud version if possible. I do not have an active/stable internet connection that is able to do cloud anything.

Not sure about price for CS as I have to figure out a version and see if they have the CD available any more.

Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate to install on the new computer instead of the windows 10 it comes with. I don't like how 10 looks or feels, the interface is a real bother to get around and some of my programs (like Sculptris) will run buggy and crash often. Others just don't run on it.  Around $200+ depending on site.

More DVD courses from SWSCA -

These can vary in price from $60 upward and will be killer on the wallet in the large bundles I need.

I hope I'm able to reach my goal so I can get cracking on my training and eventually take all this learning into a position where I can share my creativity with the world via movies and perhaps stage events. My true dream is to one day start my own company that can provide blockbuster effects for lower budget folk, but this is much further down the line; first I have to get my schooling done.

Thank you for reading this and I hope you will help me reel this dream in and make it a reality!

EDIT: computer is getting worse so I'm only focusing on the price of the new one and the replacement OS at the moment. The other things ARE needed but come secondary to the mentioned.
