Help For My Dad's Care

Donation protected
Our dad, Willie McBride Jr.  is the strongest person I know.  He is a great father. My love for him is indescribable.
My dad and mom didn't go to college but gave my brother my sister and me every opportunity to have a good life.   He always said, "Go to school, get an education,  be able to take care of yourself".   I graduated from Tuskegee and have been blessed to work for great companies like GE, PepsiCo and Shell because he and my mom gave us a solid foundation. My father is a Vietnam Veteran and instilled in us the importance of working hard and always being a person of your word. He always says your word is all you have.
Our father is a diabetic and due to complications from diabetes has had several strokes and both legs amputated. He is bedridden and now needs 24 hr care.

1. Nov 2013,  he had his first major strok
2. Dec 2013, His 1st leg amputation. He didnt require 24hr care at that time.
2014, I paid $4000 a month for caregivers to be with him.
3. Oct 2014, By the grace of God, max Aid and attendance $1788 / month was approved from the VA. The VA in Oxford Ala and Birmingham has been so kind and provide supplies for his care.
4. As of Dec 2014, I havent been working. Its taking longer than  I thought to get another job.  My faith is strong and know His will His Plan His Timing.

5. February 2015, Dad had more strokes and was determined then he needed 24hr care.

6. April 2015, had last leg amputated.
7. Snce February of this year I have been paying out of pocket for his 24 hour care $5600 month for caregivers only  minus the $1788 from VA which helps a lot for the caregivers.

8. He is on a year wait list for VA home in Pell City Ala Specifically that location because it's not far from my mom and family to be able to visit. I don't want him so far away and feel we have left him. My brother sister and I all live out of state.  We go home as often as we can to see him, restock food, dr appts, etc.

It's hard setting this up and few have told me we should but was hard to do.   I am doing it now because we need help. My funds are low, almost gone except 401k. I am prayerful and standing in faith a job will come soon to continue to provide for his care.

If you can help, it's greatly appreciated. I am being transparent hoping others learn the importance of planning for elder care.

My dad may not have done a great job at traditional retirement planning but he did the best he knew. He put all he had into his kids. We are his retirement. We have done everything we know and can  do.

This is the hardest thing I've experienced in my life.   I am grateful God has spared my dad and time I've been able to spend with him seeing his strength has given me a strength I didn't know I had.

We don't see a way right now but I know God will make a way. Thank you.
