Cathryn McClelland Memorial Fund

Cathy McClelland was getting ready to go to work Thursday morning. She wasn't feeling well and had called her sister to meet her and the kids at the emergency room.  Unfortunately, Cathy suddenly collapsed and became unresponsive.  Her brave 8-year-old son called 911 and calmed his 3-year-old sister while waiting for EMS.  CPR was initiated, and she was quickly transported to AdventHealth Shawnee Mission.

Tragically, despite every effort made and compassionate care, on Monday, July 22nd Cathy passed from sudden cardiac arrest with unknown cause.  She was surrounded by immediate and extended family, many, many friends, and loved ones.

She and her husband Frank have been married for 12 years and have 2 amazing children together, Joel and Amelia.  As a family, they loved traveling, being outdoors, and spending time with family and friends.

I am creating this GoFundMe to help Frank and his kids with immediate living  and funeral expenses, as he had to terminate employment to be there for his family.  Frank's job had him traveling to different states and gone during the week.  He will not be able to return to this job at a later date, as he will be the sole primary parent of Joel and Amelia.

Please consider donating to the McClelland family fund to help provide support AND assurance that Frank will have what he needs to get through the next few months.  If we can only take away one worry, that the bills will be paid, then he can use his time to focus on his immeasurable loss and heartbreak, while being there 100% for his children.

Cathy was young, beautiful, and full of energy.  She suited her husband, Frank, so well.  Her family meant the world to her, and she was a kind, patient, and loving wife and mom.  Cathy was the center of her husband’s life and heart.  His world revolved around her and his children.  She is deeply loved by her mom, her two sisters, and her brother, along with their families.  The hole in their hearts can never be filled, and we know time will ease the pain, but she will never be forgotten.  She was a sister, a daughter, a wife, and a mother and will always be cherished deeply by those in her family.

Cathy always opened her heart to her friends, coworkers, and family in the most generous and sincere way.  She had a smile and a laugh that lit up the whole room.  When you were her friend, you were her friend for life.  Once she loved you, she was there for you always.  Cathy supported her family as a nurse at Children’s Mercy and touched many lives there.  The amount of close friendships Cathy made with everyone she met is astounding.

One beautiful moment happened in this horrible tragedy.  As an organ donor, she gave her final gift, the gift of life, to individuals in need.  Only 2% of all organ donors actually meet the requirements to do so.  Since Cathy took pristine care of the body she was given, she will be able to fulfill her wish of always serving others.  She begins her new journey as a hero to us and to those in need.

Thank you to all.

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends." John 15:13
