Cathal Cycle 2016 is a 4 Day Charity Cycle across England, Wales and Ireland.
The Cycle will begin on 28th July 2016, from Highgate Hurling Field in Kilburn, London and end on Sunday evening, 31st of July 2016, in Gort, Co. Galway.
12 Friends from Kilburn Gaels Hurling Club , get together to raise funds for The Cormac Trust in memory of their brother & friend: Cathal Forde, who died from SADS in 2012

Noel Harrison, an ex Kilburn Gaels player & coach. Originally from Clooney Quin, Co. Clare, who as a young man suffers from MS. Funds raised will go to the Mid West regional office for MS , where Noel will be receiving treatment.
Cathal Forde was from Gort, Co Galway and had been working as an Engineer in London for three years.
On 10th April 2012 he died while coming to the end of a training with his hurling club, Kilburn Gaels in London.
Cathal died from the condition known as Sudden Adult Death Syndrome.
The player was rushed by ambulance to Whittington Hospital in Archway where he was pronounced dead.
“There was no indication that anything was wrong until he collapsed,” said Niall Forde, Cathal's brother. “He wasn’t in any distress during the session. The first sign something was wrong was when he was on the ground. It was his heart.”
He added: “My mother and father are in shock.”
Speaking about his relationship with his brother Niall said: “He was quiet, always in good form. He got on well with everyone. He loved the hurling. His girlfriend’s name was Sheila. He was settled here, but I reckon his plans were to go back to Ireland in the next couple of years.
“Cathal was the corner back on the Kilburn team in 2010. We played together on the Gort team and both won a senior championship in London [in 2010]. He was a good corner back, you know, the type of player that would never let you down.”
We want to raise funds for The Cormac Trust .
An Irish Charity dedicated to the memory of the late Cormac McAnallen. Cormac also died from SADS and the work The Cormac Trust does is dedicated to Saving Lives by spreading awareness of this disease through the 4 main objectives stated below.
1. To raise awareness of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome by presenting to Sports Groups, Schools and Local communities across ireland
2. Providing Defibrillators to Sports Clubs, Schools and local Communities all around Ireland.
3. Ensuring "CPR & How to use a Defibrillator" First Aid Training is available to everyone so they are equipped how to handle such an emergency.
4. Continue with their Genetic Heart Research Programme which is assisting Cardiologists to identify genes, which currently are not recognised as contributing to causing SADS in some people. The Goal is to have these genes recognised by medical professionals so they diagnose more accurately when they are heart screening patients.
Our Goal with Cathal Cycle 2016 is to ensure the memory of Cathals life and legacy , continues to do good by supporting the ethical and worthwhile work of The Cormac Trust while also raising money for our friend Noel Harrison to help him fight the disease that is Multiple Sclerosis.
