Our beautiful daughter, Caterina Grace Ziniti was born on November 15th, 2016 and passed away in the arms of her mommy and daddy on February 27th 2017.
She had a very brief stay on this earth but touched so many hearts. She struggled and fought everyday so she could show Mommy and Daddy how much she loved us. We cheered her on and celebrated every little thing she did over the last 104 days.
We will never know why God took our angel so soon but we are at peace knowing she is no longer suffering. There will be no more tears for the problems we wouldn't resolve or the pain we wish was inflicted on us, not her. Our tears will be those of yearning to see her, hold her, kiss her and for our lost dreams of our family of four but she will now be our guardian angel.
Caterina passed because of respiratory failure and her underlying condition is that of white matter brain disease but the exact disorder it is linked to is yet to be determined. This devastating disease affects the way her nerve fibers sends signals in order to move her muscles properly. After several months of extensive testing and everything yielding normal results, the day before she passed a repeat MRI has given us an indication of a rare congenital neuropathy. We are awaiting a blood test that will show us the exact name of this extremely rare disease.
Our goal is for this page to be used temporarily while we establish a foundation in memory of our daughter. The foundation will seek to raise funding for research of our daughter's disease as well as two hospitals - NICU at Northwell Cohen's Medical and St Mary' s Children's Hospital. These two establishments helped care for our daughter as she was too sick to be home with her family during her short life and we are forever grateful to them and how they touched ours and our daughters hearts.
