Casey Lane; an energetic, loving, community caring 34-year-old cheerleading coach from the Houston area, thought he had bit his tongue, back in October 2017, only to have the tongue become more irritated, torn and swollen by December.

A visit to an ENT in late December 2017 suggested his tongue needed to be cauterized to help it heal. Upon the procedure, just days later, the surgery revealed 3 dark spots in which the doctor biopsied.

In less than 1 week, we received Casey’s diagnosis of stage 4, Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Casey, due to severe pain and inability to swallow, has lost 33 pounds in about 6 weeks. He’s been unable to work since November 2017.

The local Cancer Institute proposed their method for this aggressive deadly cancer. It involved minimal chemotheropy AND TOTAL removal of Casey's tongue. Additionally he will receive heavy radical radiation, surgical addition of a permanent lifetime airway tube and a feeding tube.  The success rate of this method is 40% and life expectancy of only 3-5yrs.

After frantically researching for a treatment with a more positive outcome, Casey and his family were directed to University of Chicago Medical Center.

The Oncology team, after meeting Casey, projected
hope. A 6 session plan of simotanious  chemotherapy and radiation for 5 days. He will receive 6 sessions of these 5 day treatments, one week on and one week off. Casey announced he is ready to fight and undergo the intense, painful treatment to try to save his tongue and his life. The Chicago Cancer team has started fighting Casey's deadly cancer 1 week after meeting in April 2018. Casey will undergo 10-12 weeks of "In & Out" treatment and quite a bit of time rehab and recovery.

The family is working diligently, with help from the hospital and friends, to secure living quarters while he is relocated for treatment in Chicago.
Donations will help with travel, medical treatments, therapies, and living expenses.
Casey may not be able to work for 9 -12 months due to the treatments and therapies to help save his life. The family is struggling to pay Casey's medical and personal expenses which have been mounting since November 2017.

With faith, hope and determination to support Casey's decision, we are reaching out to our communities for immediate support for this wonderful young man.
