Carrie Mason living with Lyme

I’m 23 now, but I first got sick right after my 16th birthday. So the past seven years has been a long journey. I will tell you a little bit about my background.
Before I became sick with Lyme, my life was pretty much normal. I was very active, loved being outside and especially swimming. My Dad works at a YMCA camp and I loved going to camp with him. I’m a scuba diver and went on several diving trips with my Dad. I’ve had some really awesome experiences diving! (I got to swim with sharks!) I was a 4.0 GPA in High School before I got sick and my dream was to be a Marine Biologist. When I first got sick, it was flu like symptoms, then I stopped eating and became very weak. I started having neurological symptoms and it effected my grades. I was in the eleventh grade and I finally had to drop out of school because I could not remember things, plus I couldn’t walk down the hall to my classes because I was too weak. I was able to finish High School at home a year behind schedule, but at least I did it!
I’m basically unable to work or go to college due to all my symptoms. Lyme has affected my whole body. My symptoms include chronic stomach pain, joint pain, chronic fatigue and weakness, brain fog, seizures, headaches, chest pain, light and sound sensitivity.
It took about two years before a Doctor diagnosed me with Lyme Disease. Over the years I have been to at least 21 doctors and have tried numerous treatments. Nothing so far has relived me of my symptoms. The cost for all my treatments over the years has been astronomical because insurance does not cover any of it. The high cost of this illness has really put a strain on our family. So that is why I’m asking friends to help me raise money to help pay for treatments. If I can raise enough money, I’m planning to have stem cell therapy. I have done a lot of research on it and have met a couple of Lyme patients that have had amazing results with stem cells.
I’m praying that this treatment is going to give me some relief and I can get back out and enjoy Life! I thank you for allowing me to tell you my story and thank you for any contributions you can make. Most of all I ask for your prayers, that God continues to give me strength each day to fight this terrible disease. I believe God has given me a purpose in going through this pain. With God, I will WIN this battle!
