Carlos Rosas Stroke Recovery

Donation protected
On June 9th, our friend Carlos suffered a stroke. It left his left side paralyzed and prompted emergency surgery to relieve the pressure in his skull. He is currently undergoing physical and speech therapy at the hospital to help regain his motor functions. Carlos is one of our fellow graduate students at the University of California, Riverside and he is only 30 years old. This unfortunate event will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on not only his academic studies, but also his personal well-being. Carlos is a kind and generous person, and is always a cheerful presence in the lab. He is an international student from Mexico, so his financial burdens were already greater than average. Carlos's current stipend will extend through the end of the summer, but it will not be sufficient to cover the costs of his stroke and surgeries.

We have started this campaign as a means to help cover some of these costs. Donations will help cover some of his medical expenses, rehabilitation, transport, and personal care. It will also relieve some of the financial pressure on his family, all of whom live in Mexico and must obtain visas and airline tickets to visit him.

A timeline for his recovery is unclear, since he still has not regained the use of his left side. We are optimistic that Carlos will get better, but a challenging road lays ahead of him and it could last upwards of a year. Any donation would be greatly appreciated by Carlos, his family, and his friends.
