Help Us Bring Our Boys to NZ!

Our names are Stephanie and Adam and we are moving to New Zealand! I will be starting a PhD in January, so Adam and I are hoping to get our little family settled in by late December. As you can see in the picture, we have two adorable furry children – Caribou, a husky mix, and Lemur, our little tabby. We adopted them both a little over 2 years ago as babies, only a few weeks apart. They’ve been raised together, truly best buds, and often don’t realize they’re not the same kind of animal. Playful, loving, and excellent adventure companions, Caribou and Lemur are an integral part of our family, so when we decided to make the big move there was no question that they would be coming with us.
For anyone who has tried to move abroad (especially to NZ) with animals you’ll know that it is both extremely difficult and horribly expensive. We’ve been working for almost a year now to get our boys ready for the big adventure but there are still many more vet appointments and other arrangements to be made (flights, quarantine, etc.) and we’ve been recommended to budget $5,000 for a dog and $3,000 for a cat by the time all is said and done. When added to the rest of our prep and moving expenses, $8,000 is an ominous number.
So, for all of you animal lovers out there who know how much our pets become members of our families and irrevocable pieces of our hearts, please help us bring our boys with us to New Zealand! We’re so grateful for all the support, thank you sincerely for your help.
Caribou is excited to meet sheep and see the ocean, while Lemur is still flabbergasted by the idea of wilderness without predators! It will be a fun and interesting adjustment from the mountains of Colorado to the shores of New Zealand, and we will be happily documenting it along the way so look out for “Caribou & Lemur take on NZ” posts!
