Carfs to Canada; Dog Rescue

CARF is a Curacao based animal rescue that has been saving dogs since 2008. When my wife and I visited CARF in January, 2018, they had over 70 dogs in care; over 20 of them were puppies. With a population of approximately 150 000 people, potential adopters are a rare commodity. We brought 2 pups home to Canada, and with help from Ottawa Dog Rescue, quickly found them wonderful permanent homes.
The situation has only gotten worse in Curacao. The influx of puppies, adult dogs, and dogs requiring medical care has been huge and CARF is bulging at the seams. Our goal is to raise enough money for one of us to go down to Curacao at the end of August, and bring back as many dogs as Air Canada will allow. If the stars align, we will be permitted to bring several dogs back in cargo. If it turns out that the temperature is too hot for animals in Cargo, we will bring 1-2 puppies back onboard, and all the money raised (after expenses) will be donated to CARF directly.

p.s. I am often asked, "Why brings dogs here from another country? Don't we have enough strays here?" The fact is, although we do have some issues with the dog population here in Canada, we are also blessed with a great many awesome dog rescues to help them, as well as a multitude of wonderful people willing to adopt a rescue dog. We feel that rescue is a global issue, and there are many places that have it way worse than us; if we can help, we should help. Rescues in Ottawa have found homes for dogs from Quebec, NWT, New York, India, Korea, The Caribbean (everyone loves a PotCake!), and Iqaluit.
That's the beauty of Canadians; we help when we can.
