The Recipients:
The Cochran family of San Pablo, California; composed of Keefe and Yolanda who will celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary on August 22, 2017 and their three children Shania, Kameron, and Devin.
Keefe and Yolanda met nearly 35 years ago while working at Burger King and immediately hit it off. They married in 1987 and tried to start a family. They did not conceive on their own but their love of children and family led them to assist in the care of many nieces and nephews. Down the line, their love of children led Yolanda to open an in-home daycare called Smiling Star Childcare. After having the daycare for several years they still longed for children of their own so they began the process of foster care then the adoption of their precious children.
Why we are Fundraising:
First, because we LOVE them! Second because Yolanda is facing an uphill battle with her health. She has a rare form of Lupus that has depleted her genes for mobility. Yolanda has participated in several experimental treatments, chemotherapy, and has undergone a bone marrow transplant from her brother Carl. While she is no longer hospitalized, she is receiving daily treatment and remains positive. Because of her fragile immune system, she is unable to be at home due to the germs from the children in her in-home daycare. This is a major letdown because of her love for children! Yolanda currently resides with her mother and comes home on the weekends to be with her husband and children.
Immediate Needs:
Because of their unique set of challenges, Keefe has taken a leave of absence from work to care for his family full time. This move has caused a major financial strain as we are all aware that financial obligations do not stop when one is ill. Right now, funds are needed to cover the following:
* Mortgage and utilities
* Gas to travel to appointments
* Respite care
* Food and groceries
All funds will go directly to the family to assist with immediate needs at their discretion and no donation is too small. Our goal is to cover at least 6 months of expenses for the family to ease their burdens. Please consider helping a family that has done so much to help others through the years.
