Diana is 13 years of age. She lives with her parents and two younger brothers in Carcelen, where they were assigned very basic government housing after they were forced to evacuate their home in a rural area of Ecuador due to imminent risk of mudslide. Since they moved to Quito, her parents have been diligently but unsuccessfully searching for work. They have been forced to start their lives over from scratch with no income. Diana’s family goes hungry often. She and her brothers have missed school many times because they can’t afford transportation; nevertheless Diana studies hard to get good grades because she knows that her education is important.
It’s heartbreaking to see kids growing without their most basic needs being met.
Earlier this year Nahun and Nelly Rojas learned about Diana’s family and many other families in similar situation. Since then, they have been visiting weekly to bring the hope of the knowledge of God to these families. They bring snacks for the kids along with fun learning activities. With the financial support from their family in Canada and their local church, in September they were able to offer a full meal for more than 150 people, a parenting workshop and a health brigade to this community.
The needs continue to arise as they get to know the families in a more personal level. They wish to do more, and this is where you come into play.
Our goal is to bless as many families in this community as we possibly can with a basket of groceries, and each one of the 53 children with a toy.
