This is the only official go fund me for the Hughes family. As most people have heard by now Rachel (24 year old pregnant woman) was driving her car home from work Thursday morning and blacked out. This black out resulted in a horrifying car accident where she went speeding straight into a rock wall in someone’s back lawn. The footage of the accident was actually caught on video by the neighbors security camera and is extremely hard to watch.

Rachel was then transported by ambulance to Mountain Point Medical and then was immediately life flighted to University of Utah Hospital where her husband was waiting for her. As soon as Hunter (her husband) got to see her they turned around and wheeled her right out the door yelling that she needed an emergency c-section. Their first child was born at 1:18pm and his name is Beckham Harvey Hughes weighing 2lbs 12ounces. Unfortunately no one was able to hear how Beckham was doing or even see him until the doctors and nurses were able to get him past the critical condition he was in, around 5:45 they allowed Dad to go meet his son. Mom was then stable enough later that night to go say hello to her precious baby boy.

We are so grateful Rachel is doing well and the doctors still hope to figure out what caused her to blackout in the first place. Beckham still needs all our prayers and good thoughts sent his way. He was banged up from the accident and had bruises all over him. His oxygen wasn’t getting to him properly because the placenta tearing from the uterine wall which is why they had to get him out ASAP.

They have a LONG road ahead of them and all they have asked for is prayers, prayers and more prayers. But unfortunately hospitals don’t take payments of faith and love and that is where I know our community can come together and help out the Hughes family!

Rachel’s most recent update:
My little Superman has had quite the past few days. On Saturday we were told that there was a very high possibility that Beckham has an infection. So much so, they started him on antibiotics while we waited for confirmation. This suspicion came from a very dramatic jump in his white blood cell count over one day. (100 to the 800’s) which was very concerning. They drew labs and sent in two blood samples, a urine sample and spinal fluid sample. We waited 48 hours to see if there was any fungus or infection. During that time I asked everyone to pray specifically for Beckham’s body to be infection free.
48 hours later, we learned that there was absolutely NO sign of infection on ANY of the labs that were sent in. The doctors were confused (although very reassured) so they sent in another test to recount his white blood cells and they had completely corrected back down to 94.
His red blood cell count was also very low and Beckham was extremely pale, so they decided to do a blood transfusion. Within hours of the blood transfusion his red blood cells were back to normal and he looked pink as can be.
Mama is back to getting her cuddles every day because Beckham is doing so good.
I’ve had no doubt that there would be many things throughout this process that couldn’t be explained medically and we got to witness another one of those miracles this week.
I know there is power in witnesses and numbers. Thank you for being a part of Beckham’s journey with us. We love you. ❤️

Rachel’s update:

I am so excited to share Beckham’s update with you!

Our strong baby boy went in for surgery two days ago for a reservoir to be placed in his brain. The blood in his ventricles were not allowing his spinal fluid to drain correctly, so adding this reservoir allows the doctor to remove it daily through a needle.
We were blessed with an incredible surgeon at Primary Children’s and the surgery went perfectly. Within 24 hours of surgery, Beckham had his breathing tube removed once again and is breathing completely on his own! We have been able to start doing skin to skin () daily, he is tolerating his feeds perfectly and his weight is up for 2 pounds 11 ounces! We are so proud of him!
This little body has gone through so much in his first three weeks of life. I know everything that has happened has been in Gods perfect timing and according to his will.
Hunter and I know that the unity of prayer we have all created and participated in, faith and the power of the priesthood, have healed our baby boy.

Here is the latest updated from Rachel:

Beckham has had an incredible few days. He was seizure free for 24 hours so they removed the EEG and we can see that cute head of hair! He had his art line removed, pick line removed and his catheter removed. His kidney labs are still looking great and the bleeding in his brain has continued to stay the same with no increase.
They will continue to do ultrasounds at least once a week to keep an eye on the spinal fluid that can build up in the ventricles where his brain bleed is. If the spinal fluid increases, Beckham will have a reservoir inserted into his head where the spinal fluid can drain. This surgery is very low risk and will take away any additional pressure in his head that can cause damage. We are SO grateful that modern medicine and an incredible brain surgeon here at the U, has given us that option if needed.
We will never be able to express our gratitude for the prayers said in his behalf. We KNOW that Beckham’s life is in Gods hands and we are so grateful for the opportunity to exercise this amount of faith. We love you. Thank you for exercising faith with us.

Mormon 9:15 - “And now, O all ye that have imagined up unto yourselves a god who can do no miracles, I would ask of you, have all these things passed, of which I have spoken? Has the end come yet? Behold I say unto you, Nay; and God has not ceased to be a God of miracles.”

Around 10:30am this morning the neurologist team told Hunter and I that they wanted to take a third ultrasound for Beckham’s brain because his seizures hadn’t stopped and his blood level had dropped, indicating their may be more blood going into his brain. They were also extremely concerned about his kidneys because his potassium was too high and sodium was too low.
They told us that it was actually possible Beckhams kidneys had starting shutting down and that they needed to order labs this morning but all medical evidence pointed to that.
They also ordered an MRI at Primary children’s that will be done tomorrow afternoon however, they told us that just based on the labs they were ordering and 3rd head ultrasound that it would be wise for us to start thinking about our options of letting our baby go because our sweet Beckham, based on what they believed his body was indicating, only had a 25% chance of living.

It’s obvious I can’t describe what Hunter and I experienced when this news was delivered. The neurologists and doctors allowed us to have a few moments to ourselves alone in the room after delivering this news. Needless to say, the sorrow and heartache we experienced together is unexplainable.

They allowed Hunter and I to immediately go in and see our beautiful baby. They offered to let me do skin to skin contact for the first time because of the likelihood that we were spending some of our final hours with our Son.
He was on my chest for an hour.
It is and will always be the most special, sacred moments of my life.
We spent the next few hours with mine and hunters parents waiting for the 3rd head ultrasound and labs to come back but to be honest, our emotions were completely aligned with already trying to process a loss.
I told Hunter and my parents that in the midst of the heartache and unbearable sorrow I felt the majority of today, I still had an uncomfortable feeling of peace. It took me a while to pinpoint the reason I felt so uncomfortable with the peace I had. It is because my peace was aligned purely with faith for an outcome that defied all medical odds and logic. It made me feel almost embarrassed to be so faithful in spite of what our doctors had told us that morning.
My incredible husband and Beckham’s grandparents reminded me that God’s ability defies all odds and that it was not time to give up faith and hope for our little boy.
When we met with the neurologist team again 5 hours later at 3:30pm, I genuinely was as prepared as I could have been to learn my baby boy wanted to return to heaven. I still felt unsure but tried to have faith that if his choice was to leave us that I’d understand it through the savior and my last sweet moments with my Son.

The Neurologist team came into a private room that they moved Beckham into (in his incubator) and told us that miraculously the 3rd ultrasound again came back WITHOUT an increase in blood to his brain and no white or gray matter effected. The labs for his kidneys came back as an acute injury and as long as he keeps peeing, they can do A LOT for his kidneys and monitor his sodium and potassium through medication.
The brain bleed and kidney labs are something that will need to be monitored on a daily basis because of how quickly things can occur and change but as of right now, the power of God is working miracles in our little boys body.
They have confirmed the MRI is being done tomorrow afternoon and we are hoping to have those results by tomorrow evening. The MRI will look deeper into his brain and give us a confirmation on all 3 ultrasounds concerning the bleed and the matter surrounding his brain. It will also possibly give us some answers to why his seizures are occurring.

Thank you for the prayers, fasting and faith that are allowing these miracles to unfold.
Again, I plead with you to pray in addition to his seizures stopping, specifically for the MRI results. ❤️

I know the Lord is in the middle of working miracles and I have moments of feeling terrified because of the logic that needs to be defied for these miracles to take place.
However he continues to remind me, “Be still and know that I am God.”
