On the 16th September I will be taking part in the Red Rose 50, a challenge walk organised by the Long Distance Walkers Association (LDWA). The event takes place in Lancashire and will involeve walking 50 miles in 24 hours.

I will be raising funds and awareness to support Candy Cane Rescue. This is a new rescue that has been founded to rescue Greyhounds from China.
Kerry Elliman has set this up alongside her other rescue Birmingham Greyhound Protection . Kerry has rescued a number of Greyhounds recently straight from the meat industry , the fate of these animals is barbaric and cruel.
Below is a background written by Kerry herself which explains what the funds will go to support.
"With the heart-breaking news this Week that candy the little greyhound /whippet that was due to come BGP yesterday .Had been killed by another dog in kennels I wanted to do more to make sure greys that are rescued from meat trucks in china are kept as safe as possible .Also wanted to do more for the greyhounds in china .I have set up a rescue called Candy Cane rescue in memory of little Candy .This rescue is a sister rescue to Birmingham greyhound protection .Its means any dogs coming to the uk from china will always have support and rescue back up for life .The difference is Candy Cane will purely be for china greyhounds .I have also arranged to rent kennels in china .I’m renting 5 kennels which holds 2 dogs to a kennel .The kennels have heated floors ,air con,a swimming pool for the dogs which is great for ones with leg and back problems from being in the meat crates .It is safe and secure .It has a big field for the dogs to run in .Most importantly the kennels are owned by my friends friends in china .some BGP dogs have boarded there before coming to the UK .All money for Candy Cane rescue will be raised separate from BGP .So people who have an issue with BGP bringing dogs over from china due to cost don't have to help or donate in anyway .I’m going to go to china in the next few months to take coats ,collars ,leads and some info of greyhounds for staff to read .Also to meet the dogs that's under the wing of Candy Cane .While the dogs are in the kennels they will have any vet care they need ,rabies jabs ,castrated /spayed chipped etc. .This will get them ready to come to rescue in the UK or Europe .I’m hoping to work with other rescues with regards to rehoming the dogs .Candy Cane will cover kennel fee and vet care while the dogs are out there but rescues to pay for flights .I really feel I have to do more to help the dogs in china .It’s heart-breaking and I know ten at a time isn't a lot but it's a start and will make a difference to the dogs we get .Ideally I would like to build a shelter but it's early days .I have had loads of support from rescues/groups and just greyhound lovers from all over the world .lots of people are going to help with fundraising and it's a chance for people to go to china and meet the dogs we are saving .Will update on our first dogs soon ❤️ ❤️ logo was designed be Simone Carline Carter from Nellie doodles I'm also still trying to get all the shanghai dogs .It’s no good saving dogs when there's nowhere for them to go .I’m hoping that with working with Caged Rita James and Michael James we can try and bring some of the exported one’s home unfortunately for Yun Xiao DoeDoe she's my partner in this who I drive mad on a daily basis .Anyone who knows me well or helps at kennels will understand what I mean ❤️"
I undertaken many challenges to support Greyhounds and Lurchers however this has really touched my heart as the export of Greyhounds to race in China is heartbreaking as up to now there has been no hope of rescue after racing ends also the Greyhounds that are in China anyway , this is the beggining of something wonderul and I have so much admiration for what Kerry is doing that I just felt I had to do something to support.
I will post updates of my training and preperation and of the actual event , I will be funding all expenses myself , everything donated will go to Candy Cane Rescue .
