CandoMusos Global Impact

Mission:

CandoMusos (  www.candomusos.com) was created to be a global voice for all disabled musicians, providing a platform for communication, inspiration and motivation. The money being raised will be used for such items as, promotion and further development of the website; and also provide funds to operate the organization.

Our Story:

We started Candomusos.com in March 2013 at the studio of renowned drummer Dom Famularo in Long Island, New York. Present at this at this summit of sorts was Dom, Mike Mignogna, Andrew Hewitt and me, David Segal. Mike was born with Cerebral Palsy and in town from Tennessee. He’s played drums since he was 11 years-old and has limited functions in his legs. Mike has not let this stop him from playing and he chronicles it in a book entitled "Look Ma No Feet". It is a practical approach to the drum set for someone with limited or no use of their legs. Andrew, who hails from Australia and also has Cerebral Palsy, had just flown in from California to meet us after giving a presentation at The Rhythm Arts Project (TRAPs). Despite being in a wheelchair, he has traveled all over Australia giving clinics and performing. Andrew, Mike and Dom played together at Australia's Ultimate Drummers Weekend 2009 in Melbourne. Dom Famularo, a great Ambassador of drumming saw the drive that the three of us had and helped channel our energies into a new organization that, although started by four drummers, was created to empower all musicians with disabilities.

In 2014 we added an associate board member to our main team, Drummer Joe Hardy, who is in California and was born with no legs and plays with heavy metal band Unit 287. For over 30 years he has played drums and has a unique electronic Drumset built into his wheelchair and also developed a special device that allows him to play any bass drum despite having no legs.

Four Years of Progress and Changing Lives:

Four years removed from that meeting we already have over 270 members from 31 countries. In January 2015 we spoke at NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) in the H.O.T Zone, also on our panel was Drummer Dean Zimmer who also has Arthrogryposis and Guitarist Mark Goffeney who was born with no arms and plays with his feet. Recently we launched CandoRadio which features music from disabled artists from all over the world.  We were invited back in 2016 to host another discussion at NAMM. In 2017 we made history, having nine musicians performing on NAMM CenterStage, all living with disabilities.

Your Support Counts:

All of us at CandoMusos know that there maybe thousands of people in the disabled community with potential talent, which can be liberated and developed with the right inspiration - adding a new dimension to their lives. CandoMusos provides a window where disabled musicians can showcase their talent and motivate others by seeing how they overcame their challenges. By making a contribution to CandoMusos, you are making an investment to encourage and support the talent of disabled musicians worldwide. We very much appreciate your donation.
