Melissa Sours Battle Against Brain Cancer
Please help my daughter, Melissa Sours, battle brain cancer.
In 2013, our newly-engaged daughter - and sister - Melissa, was diagnosed with a non-cancerous brain tumor caused by a rare genetic condition. The tumor left her deaf in one ear, and with significant other side effects. To treat this tumor, she underwent a 30-hour surgery, as well as proton radiation therapy. Since then, she has had ongoing surgeries, hospitalizations, scans and medical treatments for this tumor, and other related health issues.
On December 23, 2018, Melissa went to the ER with an excruciating migraine-like headache. In March we learned that she has a new tumor – but this time it’s cancerous, growing rapidly and would require another brain surgery. Melissa had her second brain surgery March 28, 2019. Last week she was told that additional treatments would not help and to prepare for the end of her life. This was devastating to everyone.
After some reflection, Melissa sought out a second opinion from the oncologists and neurologists at Swedish Hospital. They offered Melissa several treatment options for her brain cancer that may help her and give her more time. This was wonderful news for Melissa and our family. She will begin her cancer treatment next week, at Swedish Hospital. We are praying for as much additional time as possible with our Melissa - and even for a miracle.
Since December 2018, Melissa has been cared for full-time, by her loving husband Ryan, her sister Vanessa, her parents, and her other siblings - Tony and Diana. Melissa receives some disability pay from Nordstrom, but Ryan is no longer receiving a paycheck as he continues to be away from work, caring for Melissa.
This is why I’m urgently asking for your help.
