Cancer research and hospice skydive

Cancer Research UK uses donated funds to research ways of preventing, diagnosing, treating and curing cancer. Donations go towards a range of things from lab safety equipment, special biological cabinates for growing cells and chemicals for working on cancer cell DNA and drugs which decrease the number of cancer cells. Donations also go towards clinical trials.
The Southern Area Hospice services is a charity providing specialist palliative care for people across the Southern Health Trust region suffering from Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease and AIDS. They also provide ongoing support for their families and friends. Care is provided by a multi-disciplinary specialist team consisting of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, chaplains, social workers and complementary therapists, pharmacy, dieticians and occupational therapy. The team work closely together through careful assessment and care delivery to help patients, and their families and friends. They are solely reliant on donations and volunteering. Donations aid the upkeep and improvement of the hospice infrastructure and services. I have previously volunteered for this hospice for more than a year and I have seen first hand how much impact donations have. During my time there a cafe had been set up for patients and their family and friends to relax and provide food for families as they stay for prolonged periods of time.
I will be doing a sponsered tandem skydive on the 18th of February 2017 to raise funds for these very special organisations. Each will receive 50% of all donations.
