Campaign For Steve’s Memorial Grove & Estate Fund

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Stephen Mark Shapiro on Saturday, August 3rd, 2019. Steve was diagnosed with stage 4 Spindle Cell lung cancer on June 1st, 2019 and died after an unexpected complication following an arterial embolization procedure leaving him permanently on a ventilator.

Steve was not a smoker of cigarettes. The cancer ravaged his lungs and his liver in a matter of 2 months.

Rhyanna, Steve’s daughter and Rhys, Steve's son including his daughter Staci & sister Sari tried to do as much as possible to get Steve the best medical care possible at H Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL.

Steve was a loyal and loving friend and loved his children dearly. Steve's estate has been left in the care of Rhyanna Shapiro. Rhyanna Shapiro requires immediate assistance during this very difficult time. Funds raised will directly support the financial burden of the monthly home mortgage, many mandatory repairs to the home and the improvement and future beautification of the property, that will directly benefit the local communities as well as our close friends and family.

It is our goal to continue to spread Steve’s generosity and love of life forever. We envision doing this by setting up the ‘Steve’s Memorial Grove’ project. This special project will be our attempt to quantify and visualize the effect that Steve’s spirit has on all of us. The ultimate goal will be to show how far his reach continues to spread even after his death.

Steve has always planted a beautiful tree for everyone that has passed in his life. He would often plant the tree in the front yard to recall and show respect for the loved one that passed away.

Who is going to plant a lovely fruit tree for Steve?

For every donation, 1/2 will go to planting a tree in Steve’s Memorial Grove.

The other 1/2 will immediately go towards the home mortgage as well as keeping the house & property producing fruit for our local communities, amazing friends and loving family.

Please, let's come together to lessen the financial burden on top of the incredible loss this family is already experiencing by going ahead and contributing a donation right now.

"Steve was born on February 3rd, 1945 to Louis and Marian Shapiro, in Paterson, NJ and had 3 siblings, Michael, Susan and Sari. He attended the University of South Florida, graduated with a Masters degree in psychology, and worked for the Pinellas County School District for 34 years as a school psychologist. Steve dedicated his life to working and helping kids in elementary and high school. He wanted to be there for those people that could not necessarily seek or afford to get the attention they needed for themselves. Steve was a great man that took a course to be a strong force in so many lives.

Steve leaves behind his loving children Rhyanna, Rhys and Staci and he is survived by his sister Sari, cousin Leonard, his nephews Mark, David, Daniel, Landon and nieces Marci, Nikki, and Amanda. Grandsons Cameron, and Mason. Great grandson Jack. Steve will also be missed by his much loved Rottweiler, Fiona who greatly loved her belly rubs, dog bones, and nightly outings in the pasture.

Steve was a calm, gentle, laid back free spirit. He was the kind of man who believed in the arts and contributed to local community radio, the Public Broadcasting System, and more. He loved music and enjoyed going to concerts and local venue shows. He loved reading murder mysteries, detective books, magazines and the newspaper(Tampa Bay Times). In his younger years he also enjoyed raising horses with his wife Linda McMahon Shapiro. He loved his children and brought them up to be exceptional, productive and caring people in today’s society. His favorite dishes were poppy seed bagels with cream cheese and nova, BLT and corn beef sandwiches, veal parmigiana and a good salad. Steve was a passionate basketball and soccer fan and loved to bring his children to the sports events creating great experiences and wonderful memories. There was nothing he loved more than his kids and family, all his friends, reading, good food, his pets and traveling. Steve was a big advocate of family. He was the glue that held us all together.
