Meet Logan!
He is an eleven year old boy who loves to paint, video game, spend time with pets, fish, play a friendly game of baseball here and there and most of all, spend time with friends!
This however, has been a bit of a challenge for Logan you see, because he has recently been given a diagnosis that puts him on the autism spectrum. Please know, I do not wish to live by labels and neither does Logan!
However, it cannot be denied, that if you have a difference in your composition as a person, and a need that requires you special assistance at times, you will encounter or experience the world differently. If you are fortunate enough, to not be different in anyway from those in your peer group, you might not fully realise the impact this plays on your social life. If however, you are unique, and have ever suffered from not exactly "fitting in", and not necessarily having friends who truly "get you", you might know how Logan feels.
Although he has many friends (who come in all shapes, ages, and sizes), he also has many challenges. What may seem like a simple social outing for you or your child, brings to Logan and his entire family, a bit more stress, anxiety, frustration, and also a great deal of sadness. Logan is currently receiving therapies in many areas and his parents have worked extremely hard to provide him with a safety net of friends and community that will continue to help Logan grow to his full potential. These therapies, appointments, medications, and time spent are extremely draining and expensive, as you can imagine.
Recently, Logan has been given a wonderful opportunity to go to a week long camp, specialised for children with his needs. Where he can be among peers who share his heartache and challenges of "fitting in". Where Logan will be given opportunities to find kinship with others who understand to the fullest, what he faces every day.
He will be given the comfort to be himself. He will also learn additional life skills and coping mechanisms, form friendships and bonds, that may just last him a lifetime...and if not a lifetime, maybe just ease the pressures of facing an everyday life throughout the year to come, maybe, just maybe, until the next year's summer camp.
As you probably know, these camps are very expensive and although his hard working, dedicated family of five can give him what he needs, wouldn't it be great to help them help Logan?!!!! And have fun doing it? Wouldn't it be setting a great example to our children by coming together as a community and easing the stress and strain on our neighbors? Neighbors who also contribute to our community and make it a wonderful town to belong to?
Even if you do "fit in", there is unfortunately, still a chance you may fall victim to bullying, criticism, and hardships in today's society. Put yourself in Logan and his family's shoes. Imagine what it is, to have identifiable social challenges.
Let us come together to raise money to help defray the cost of Logan's camp and give this little guy and opportunity to REALLY, TRULY feel what it is to "fit in", even if it is only for one week! To Logan, a week could be a lifetime experience!
Note that by giving one week to Logan, his family will also have one week to rest, replenish, give some much needed undivided attention to his twin brothers, AND be ready to take on one more year of providing the best that they possibly can within their means, to Logan. To help Logan grow to his full potential!
Our goals:
1. Raise $1,550.00 for Logan to attend Camp Firefly from July 23-28
2. Teach through example, to our children, and remind ourselves that we are part of a larger community
3. Show Logan that although sometimes he may seem alone, he is not...we are ALL friendly faces that he can learn to trust
4. Show his family that we understand, to some degree, the challenges that they face
