Caleb Blomberg car accident

Donation protected
My son Caleb Blomberg was involved in a near fatal head on car accident on June 14, 2019. He was combative and intubated on the scene with a chest tube put in for a collapsed lung. He was then life flighted from the scene and given 2 units of blood on the way to the trauma center in Omaha. He was placed on a ventilator. He was given another 2 units of blood at the hospital and had surgery to stabilize his fractures at that time and an external fixator was placed on his leg to immobilize it. He had a break to his upper jaw, teeth loose and shifted, shattered his elbow, broke bones in his hand, broke his femur, broke his knee cap with part of it missing, broke bones in his foot, damaged 4 tendons in his hand, damaged 2 nerves in his hand/arm with one completely severed, damage to the nerve that controls his tongue, lacerated spleen, collapsed lung and had multiple lacerations throughout. He had surgery a few days later on the leg/knee and given another 2 units of blood. The next day he pulled his breathing tube out on his own which caused some damage to the throat at the time and was unable to eat for 4 more days. He had another surgery a week after the accident on his hand/wrist. 3 days later he had surgery on his elbow area after the swelling went down. He had another unit of blood a few days after that for a total of 7 units. His left elbow area was in about 30 pieces and close to being amputated. He has 20+ screws and 3 plates with some bone grafting done and will never have full range of motion in his elbow. At this time he has no feeling in the pinky, part of the ring finger and the outer portion of his left hand.  It will take up to a year before he knows how much feeling he will have in his hand if any. His tongue is deviated to the left, has speech problems, difficulty with chewing and swallowing. His knee was so severely damaged the Dr said, “I was able to piece together enough to fix his knee.” He remained in an external fixator for 4 weeks to give the knee the best chance at healing .  After that, he had another surgery to take it off. He is no weight bearing for a total of 3 months on his leg. He has lost a total of about 35-40 lbs since the accident.  He stayed almost 5 weeks in the hospital. He is home living with me now and beginning outpatient therapy. This is going to be a very long road. He won’t be able to work for a long time. We haven’t got a chance to see the car yet but the tow truck driver said there’s not much left and doesn’t look like a car. The seatbelt definitely saved his life. Unfortunately he did not have medical coverage at the time. He was in the 90 day wait period at his job. We are trying to get some help with that and applied for Medicaid but he was denied. Not sure why but we will appeal that decision. In the meantime the bills are coming in. We are appreciative of any financial help received for transportation cost to/from therapy and appointments, loss of wages, medical expenses, etc. Thank you and may God bless you and your generosity.
