Calculators 4 Kids was established to raise money for high school students who do not have the resources to purchase a calculator.
During my sabbatical as a math professor at Lasell College, I am co-teaching math classes at a few local Greater Boston area high schools and working with high school juniors at these schools to prepare them for the math portion of the SAT exam. Many students do NOT have their own calculators. As a result, I created this GOFundME campaign to raise money to provide calculators for every student who needs one. Some of the students are taking the SAT in early April and the rest are taking it in early May, and my hope is to provide them with calculators as soon as possible.
I have negotiated a good price with a Texas Instruments Vendor to purchase TI-30XIIS calculators for under $12 each and my immediate goal is to obtain at least 100 calculators for the students I am working with. Beyond that, if possible, I would like to be able to purchase as many as 400 calculators, and provide them to other students in need that may not be directly in the classes I am co-teaching at these high schools. My cause is not so much the $12 calculator, but trying to motivate and empower students to do better. By providing them with a calculator of their own, you never know where something this small may lead.

Phase 2 and update: 100 calculators have been given to the students I was helping during my sabbatical, thank you! The rest of the money is going to my newest initiative, which is to give out 300 calculators to students in need of them on Saturday, April 27th from 3-4:45 P.M. at the Café in the Boston Public Library (700 Boylston Street). Please help me reach this goal and thank you in advance!
