Caitlin Bederow - Cancer Treatment Fund

As many of you are aware, a project subcontractor Shane Bederow of T&H Sheetmetal has had devastating news that his daughter, Caitlin has been diagnosed with brain cancer.  We would like to raise funds for the family to support them during this time.

Caitlin Bederow is the 17 year old daughter of Jodie & Shane. Caitlin was not one for school and subsequently left during grade 10 studies to do a Certificate in Retail and Hospitality and gain full time employment.

In early May of this year she had managed to secure herself a position at one of the major hotels in Southbank as part of the banquets and conferencing team , a position she was thoroughly enjoying (along with the pay) and felt she had started to realise some of her goals of being independent and self supporting.

She had been in this position for almost 2 weeks before a review on the 30th May of a prior scan showed she had a brain tumour. She was swiftly sent to a neurosurgeon for further review and advised that surgery could be undertaken promptly. Surgery was carried out on the 13th June with what appeared to be a remarkable recovery after such an ordeal. No thoughts at all at this time of anything to be concerned about even though we were aware that not all of the tumour was able to be removed.

On the 18th June prior to discharge we were given the news that the pathology results had come back and the heartbreaking diagnosis was that she had a terminal brain cancer.

After the initial shock and disbelief Caitlin appeared upbeat and positive that she was going to beat this. Hers and our lives have now dramatically changed from a daily routine of work and social lives to a 6 week course of daily radiation and chemotherapy and a minefield of other medications to attempt to slow the tumours growth.

Whilst the doctors long term outlook for her has not been ideal , we are still positive from research we have done of other survivors of a similar condition that we are also seeking alternative treatments in conjunction to the radiation and chemo to improve the quality and longevity of her life.

Even though Caitlin has been surprisingly positive and accepting of her condition she does have days where it hits her hard of being dealt an unfair hand just as her future was seemingly headed in the right direction.
