Tragic event: My dog was hit by car
Donation protected
Last night (2/8/16) my year and a half old dog, Caico, was hit by a car while I was walking him near Riverside Drive in Washington Heights. The driver didn't stop.
Two people who were driving on the same road stopped to help me. They allowed me to bring Caico in the car and drove us to BluePearl Veterinary Partners. Caico's bottom half was hit. He suffered an open wound in his abdomen, two broken legs and a dislocated hip.
BluePearl did an overnight surgery on him to stitch up his abdomen area. He came out of that fine. My biggest worry was his quality of life but vet said once she was inside she didn't see any major trauma or internal bleeding. Otherwise surgeon would've called me in the middle of it to suggest putting him down if internal injuries were irreversible or too many.
Yesterday was the most critical surgery. They'll work on his broken hind legs and dislocated hip tomorrow. It would be too much to do one after the other without rest.
Miraculously, the way he was hit plus the fact that he was brought in so quickly allowed them to address issues immediately.
Putting him down because of money wasn't an option. He's a family member and we love him like one.
I'm asking for help because the bills will be over 20k and we simply don't have the resources to absorb that type of financial hit. If you need to confirm feel free to call:

Dog's name: Caico.
Owners: Sean O'Callaghan and Jose Torres
I've never done this before so I feel strange asking people for money but I wouldn't be doing it if we really didn't need the help.
Thank you for any contribution you can offer.
I'll be updating this with pics of him in the hospital. I'm going there today.
