Cadence Martinez 8 Years of Hope

Donation protected
Cadence is our 8-year-old daughter and is the sweetest, strongest, and most pure hearted little girl we have ever known.  It hurts our heart and is extremely unfortunate that Cadence has had to endure over 730 days of her short 8 years in the hospital fighting to stay alive.

Cadence was born with several complex congenital heart defects some of which include, double-outlet right ventricle, hypoplastic left heart syndrome, total anomalous pulmonary venous return, pulmonary vein stenosis, pulmonary valve atresia, and heterotaxy. She was also born with a few congenital GI problems such as micorgastira and malrotation of the intestines.  Over the course of the last 2 years she’s also acquired other medical conditions such as atrial tachycardia, pleural effusions, plastic bronchitis, cirrhosis of the liver, and vocal cord paralysis.  She has undergone 6 open heart surgeries, 2 stomach surgeries, 20+ cardiac caths, and 2 strokes.

Cadence’s heart condition has worsened over the last few months and she has been in Radys Children Hopital, San Diego since May 1st.  She underwent her 6th open heart surgery, which lasted a total of 9 hours, on July 11th and things have been on a downward spiral since then.  Over the course of the last 8 weeks, Cadence has battled against 2 aspirations which lead to 2 codes where they had to perform CPR with the last code lasting13 mins; 5 bronchoscopies where doctors guide a suction catheter into her lungs in attempt to suction out mucus plugs and casts of her airways; a 2nd stroke which lead to her not being able to move the right side of her face, arm, hand, leg, and foot; a collapsed lung;  6 chest tubes; 3 intubations which is a breathing tube down her trachea to assist her in breathing; multiple tubes going in her nose down to her stomach and intestines; pacemaker wires in her chest; and countless IVs and central lines going in her arm, neck, and chest leading into her heart. She has had her last breathing tube in for 4 weeks and will continue to have it in for a few more weeks.  Cadence is now also suffering from depression, anxiety, and narcotic withdraws.  She has not been out of her hospital bed for 4 weeks, out of her hospital room for 6 weeks, or felt the warmth of the sun or a breeze on her face for 11 weeks.

Doctors are attempting to try new interventions to help her, but it has been difficult to say the least.  She has gone into last effort procedures where we were forced to say our goodbyes because the odds of her overcoming were slim.  Cadence has fought through every time.  When we say she is a fighter and the strongest person we know, there is no exaggeration.

We need help and Cadence needs help.  We are setting up this page for financial assistance in past, present, and future medical bills, expected medical supplies such as a wheelchair and g-tube supplies, physical, occupational, and speech therapy expenses, travel and food expenses, etc.  If you cannot donate monetarily we ask for your thoughts and prayers.  We need to get Cadence back to the fun loving, silly, drum playing, joke telling, caring, little girl she’s fought everyday to be.

Thank you,
