Irizarry Family Memorial Fund
This family has suffered something none of us could imagine. Sunday afternoon, while strolling on a beach collecting shark teeth, Ommy Irizarry and Oceana Irizzary were struck by an airplane that had lost control and had to make an emergency crash landing. Ommy and Oceana were there with their family on a beach trip to celebrate Ommy and Rebecca's wedding anniversary.
Ommy was a Sgt. 1st Class serving 12 years in the Army, having completed 2 tours to Iraq. He was well respected by the soldiers under his command. He was also a committed family man-husband and father. I have had the distinct pleasure in spending time with him and his family, and speak from the heart when I say he was funny, had a contageous smile and laugh, and there was no doubt the love and adoration he felt for his wife Rebecca, daughters Oceana and Ava, and his son Ommy.
Oceana was also struck by the plane and was lifeflighted to the hospital with severely critical injuries. She was a spunky, hilarious, quick witted 9 year old who loved the beach and loved her family.
Sadly, Rebecca, Ava, and Ommy (Jr.) along with their extended family, are left with an enormous loss. I have created this fund out of love and respect for my friends Ommy and Rebecca, and their beautiful children Oceana, Ava, and Ommy (Jr.)
I can not begin to imagine where Rebecca goes from here, or how she will come back from such a lifechanging loss. What I do know is that I want to share their story with as many as I can, and ask you all to donate to help her. She will have a large enough burden to carry just making it through this tragedy-I would like to think money won't have to be something she needs to worry about at this time.
ANY donation is sincerely appreciated-and every penny will go to Rebecca to support her family now, or in the future.
Thank you for your generosity.
The fact that so may of you have had this family on your minds and in your hearts is incredible...
Please share this page just a bit longer if you are able, so we can try and meet that goal before presenting to Rebecca, Ava, and Ommy Jr. on Thursday.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! - Rhonda
PLEASE continue to share this page with your friends and family. We are still reaching so many!
It only takes one look at this picture to see the smiling faces and know these are fun, loving, amazing people who will be missed by many. This was a fun filled day at the go-cart park, and a memory I will cherish.
THANK YOU again to everyone!
This photo is a beautiful memory of a wonderful day in the sun we spent on Amelia Island this summer with our families. Ommy and Oceana made a hammerhead shark in the sand (while Jackson supervised from a safe distance) ;)
I cant imagine what you and your family must be feeling, I pray for your strength and healing daily!!! I am here if u need anything!!!
Still cannot find the words to express the sorrow and love that we feel, dear Becci. Know that we are here for you and yours.
You are welcome and thank you for the kind words. This is all for Rebecca and her family. If I could do more somehow to ease her pain I would. Please just continue to share this page and spread the word. Your support is appreciated!
God bless you for helping this beautiful family in their time of need. Praying for the family and friends left behind. He's waiting for each of you building your castle in the sky.
Ommy was someone you could instantly call Brother. I worked with him when I arrived at Ft Stewart in 2012- up until I retired in 2013. He was the kind of person that no matter how difficult something was or who needed help he was the first person to step up to the plate and assist them . Both He and is wife were there when I needed help, they watched both my sons for me while my wife gave birth to my daughter. We had no family in the area and it greatly help us. When I was going through some very difficult dark times trying to deal with my PTSD Ommy had my back I will never forget that and he will be truly missed. RIP Brother til we meet again.
Ommy was an exemplary soldier, father, husband and friend. What a tragic loss to this world and to this family. I will pray everyday for healing for Rebecca and little Ava and little Ommy.
Ommy was an amazing Friend, mentor and inspiration to my son Matt. After Matt was injured in Afghanistan by and IED, Ommy was by his side for 7 months managing his daily activities, medical appointments, and helping Matt transition back to health by sharing his laughter, wisdom, strength and companionship. Our prayers are sent to his loving family at this time. I am sharing this Fund to help support them.
Our prayers of comfort go out to the Irizarry family. Oceana was a great friend to my Son, Xander, who misses her dearly. Her "awesome art" drawings, her kind heart and her smile will forever be remembered. May SFC Irizarry Rest in Peace. God Bless you all.
Thoughts and prayers from the McDonald family
Yes maam. I created this for Rebecca and the Irizarry family. Many people were asking for a way to help or to make a donation, so this page was created for that purpose. I could not be there physically for my friend in Florida while she struggles, but felt the need to do something.
I think its great how people reach out to help people. Thanks Rhonda for doing this. Its sad that people question this but I am glad you understand. God bless and I pray for Rebecca and all involved.
Thoughts & Prayers go out to this family. I can't even imagine
Oceana is in this picture to the left. I am not sure what pic you are seeing, so I am not sure. Ava is missing a few teeth too.
God be with you ! This is so tragic it hurts my heart !
Condolences to the Family & Friends. Earlier I was looking at photos on both Ommy's & Rebecca's Facebook pages. I see two little girls in a lot of those shots. On Ommy's page......the girl missing a tooth & holding a bunny......is THAT Oceana?
From our Irizarry family to yours.....Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Take care and God Bless.
Thank you to everyone who has generously donated so far! PLEASE share this with your family and friends - help spread the word! Thank you
Carrying you in my heart, Rebecca and Family.
