For those of you who know Meghan, you know her as a dynamic, fun loving, intelligent woman. You may remember watching Meghan perform with the drill team at Juneau Douglas High School. Perhaps you've marveled at her paintings, or her work for the Juneau Empire newspaper. You might even read her blogs and be inspired by her creative witty stories. You may not know that she's recently been diagnosed with a heartbreaking disease.
Pernicious Anemia is an unfortunate and terrible auto immune disease in which your body refuses to absorb vitamin B-12. This results in unimaginable pain and a plethora of other debilitating symptoms.
As terrible as this disease is, once it's diagnosed it's easy enough to treat. To recover one simply needs multiple shots of B-12. Great news right?! Well, things get a little tricky when the correct shots needed to save Meghan's life are not covered by insurance.
This situation seems unreal because it's unfair and downright wrong.
Many of us have family members who could support us if anything of this magnitude ever happened. Meghan doesn't have this privilege. Meghan's mother is no longer with us and her other immediate family members are doing all they can to help.
We've exhausted our government options and are only using this as a final resort. Meghan has completely run out of savings and, unable to work, is now facing the stress of unpayable bills and more physical pain without treatment.
Even a small amount from each of you could restore Meghan's life. Meghan has done so much fundraising and PR work for amazing causes throughout the years. Now, hopefully some of that karma will come back to her when she really needs it.
Please find it in your heart to help a beautiful person who needs immediate assistance. If your own funds are limited, please share this with anyone you know who may be able to help.
Meghan is an incredibly talented painter. She has been able to continue to paint beautiful pieces of art through most of this difficult time. She would be thrilled to sell her art, or be commissioned for paintings during her treatment and recovery.
