Hi everyone,
I am writing this to share my family’s current situation and to support for my father’s (Vijayakumar M) treatment against blood and bone marrow cancer. My father was admitted to the CMC Hospital Vellore on 16th of December and he has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (a type of blood cancer). He is currently undergoing chemotherapy and requires Bone Marrow Transplantation.
My family consists of four members - father, mother, my brother and I. My brother and I work in corporate jobs and have already exhausted all our savings for the first phase of treatment. My father is a retired government servant. Coming from a middle-class family in India, we both did our engineering degrees on student loans and have looked after all expenses of our parents above and beyond our own. We also had to sell most of our land back home in order to meet the expenses. I'm working hard to meet the expenses coming up for the second phase of his treatment and any support from you will be hugely beneficial in our battle.
Treatment History:
In Dec 2017, Dad was admitted to intensive care unit with lower respiratory tract infection. He had to be treated with prolonged antibiotics and supportive care. After stabilization, he was given chemotherapy. The estimated cost for admission and treatment of chemotherapy (which included blood & Blood product support, supportive care, other supportive therapy, hospitalization & nursing care, antibiotics & investigations) came up to $25,000. The above situation is completed and we managed to pay the $25,000.
Current Situation:
Currently, he is undergoing chemotherapy cycles and he has completed 4 cycles. Still, he needs to go for 2 more cycles.
Upcoming Treatment:
The funds raised here will be completely utilized for the post-chemotherapy cycle. We will be finding a donor for bone marrow transplantation. Before that, we need to take blood samples from his own siblings and family members to see if there is a match for his blood. For each sample blood test, we need to pay around $200 (Fifteen Thousand Rupees only). Once we find the 100% match, we will go for transplantation. Before bone marrow transplantation, he requires intense chemotherapy to bring down all his blood count level to zero and then will proceed with the transplantation. The estimated cost for further treatment for this present admission with blood & Blood product support, supportive care, other supportive therapy, hospitalization & nursing care, antibiotics & investigations will be approximate $25,000.

Initial estimate was given for Rs. 8 lakhs rupees, but the actual cost was approximately Rs. 20 lakhs rupees.
