Save A Home

In less than 3 months, a dear friend of mine, (Amani Thomas-Yusuf as well as her 4 children, husband, and sister) will become homeless if the City of Boston proceeds to foreclose on her family home to collect years of back taxes. I have known her for over 20 years to be a hard worker and the kindest person I know. She has been dedicated to our community and tried to help anyone she could. For years, she and her family lived in their family's home, mortgage fully paid off by her hard working grandparents.  She lived there caring for her grandmother who grew frail and sick and eventually passed away.  As the family was low income, repairs, and back taxes went unpaid (They were only able to make small infrequent payments).  The bills have grown out of control and the house is in grave danger of being  foreclosed on by the City of Boston.  Amani is in desperate need of help to make a significant payment on the taxes in order to buy more time to pay them off.  Amani works hard at several jobs to make ends meet. Her days begin at 3am and often don't end until after ten as she delivers papers, teaches 2nd grade, heads the school after school program and visits and cares for aging mother daily.  Her husband is currently sick and unable to contribute significantly to the finances of the family at this time.  Not only has the home at 14 Savin Street, been a safe place for Amani and her family, it has provided shelter to extended family members and even community members at times of need.  Over the years, several young people having various troubles were welcomed and nurtured in the home. This is a hardworking community minded African-American family that is currently struggling to better their situation and hold on to the hard work of their grandparents. Please help her payoff some of the back taxes on her home so she can continue to serve the community as the wonderful giving educator, parent, daughter and friend that she is.
