"Ahmed" & "Bilal" did not choose to come to the U.S., nor did they choose to become refugees. At ages 8 and 9, they have seen more pain in their lives than many people can comprehend.
Their new life in America is filled with challenges, new rules, strange people with different habits and a whole new language to learn. Ahmed & Bilal have missed more than 3 years of school and their parents cannot even help them with their homework.
Social Services for the Arab Community (SSFAC), a 501c3 non-profit organization, assists hundreds of families like Ahmed & Bilal's to become self-sufficient and contributing members of the Greater Toledo, Ohio community.
SSFAC is launching a unique program designed to help the unique needs of families like Ahmed & Bilal's. The SSFAC Family Education Program, in partnership with the Sylvania (Ohio) Public School system, will offer English & cultural courses for parents and homework help, tutoring and socialization opportunities for school aged children like Ahmed & Bilal.
Because language proficiency is linked with economic progress, the refugee & immigrant families who need this program cannot afford to pay for this important opportunity.
SSFAC is respectfully requesting your partnership to raise $30,000 that will help pay for ESL teacher salaries, childcare, family bus transportation and program materials, which will be used to educate and transform the future of 30 refugee and immigrant families.
SSFAC needs this funding before the start of the 2016-2017 school year (late August 2016).
Though children like Ahmed & Bilal face many difficulties, they have great worth and their families are trying to provide the same opportunities as we all desire for our own children. Your donation will make a tremendous difference in their lives!
