Honeymoon for a Friend

** For those of you who know the future Mr. & Mrs. Oliver, "mums" the word, because this is a surprise for them :)

Just under two years ago I began working at my current job, and if you had asked me then what I had expected from my new employer I would have sold myself short. I work at a substance abuse recovery center, and the people I have spent my time with over the past two years have become an extension of my family. Among these beautiful and inspired people is a fellow named Cainan.

Cainan is the type of person that it takes a long time to get to know. He is very purposeful in his friendships, and in his relationships. He feels loyalty deeply, and cares indefinitely for the human condition. Knowing him gives you the sense of grounding.

The person I just described is the exhibition of this man’s true and divine nature. However, Cainan has had an uneven and patchy road to get where he is now, and always in tow have been his incomparably beautiful fiancé Kenndra, and his so cute you can die son, Colton.

Roughly ten years ago, it was fate that lead Cainan to Kenndra in Santa Barbara California. Being young and starting their journey into college, it was normal that all sorts of celebrations were going on clock round, and joining in is just a part of life then. As the days past, their connection grew stronger and soon enough the two had fallen in love.

I know what you're thinking, the perfect ending is coming soon! Well, not just yet - at least not at this point of the story.

Unfortunately, there was a delay for the couple, and the delay is called addiction. You see, while some individuals can make it through their early years and set down certain extracurricular activities, others struggle.

Cainan, an exemplary man today, spent many years fighting a war that seems invisible to naked eye. Beside him was Kenndra who fought for him, never giving up. Amidst the years their son, who is now 8, was born. A miracle. Cainan spent a grueling amount of time away from his family finding recovery, and today stands over 3 years sober. With every breath he lives for his family, and to help others who are where he once was.

In the past three years, this couple has had to come to re-know each other in a new but familiar way. It has been hard, perhaps even harder than before, but they have not given up.

The love they first knew for one another has re-emerged and multiplied. Finally, this September, they get to stand at the altar, hand in hand, and say "I do". A celebration not just for love, but for what love can make it through - anything.

A modest family, recently obtaining their own home over a year ago, are planning a simple yet elegant wedding near where they first saw one another over ten years ago. They have a circle of friends that would go to the ends of the earth to help them plan this celebration, and we all are.

From where we stand here in June the wedding will be a grand success. However, the couple has little means for a honeymoon.

This is why I write. This is why any number of us would write on their behalf.

Having just recently been married, I understand the importance of the time a husband and wife need after being married.

If they could, they would go to Kauai and spend their time hiking, kayaking, snuba'ing, fishing, watching the sunset, laughing, and just simply being together.

It is my hope, and all of ours' hope that we can help them with that <3

No donation is too small, even simply sharing this cause or sending out prayers for the almost newlyweds would be so appreciated!

campaign ends September 25th 2016 :)
