Az teen suffers spinal injury in Maui
On Sunday, July 13th while on vacation with his family in Maui, Alex suffered a traumatic spinal cord injury as a result of a freak accident on Kaanpali Beach. His C5 vertebra was fractured and his spinal cord was bruised. He had stabilization surgery but does not have movement below the waist or in his fingers.
Alex is still in the ICU in Maui. They are waiting for his blood pressure to stabilize so that he can be safely transported by air ambulance to St. Joseph's in Phoenix where he will undergo further treatment and rehabilitation.
Alex will be a senior at Mountain Ridge High School. He is an honor student, soccer player, varsity swimmer, and captain of the swim team. After graduation, he plans to study aerospace engineering.
This family needs your help! The medical bills are going to be costly, so any little bit helps.
Thank you for all your support and prayers.
Just wanted to provide you all with an update. Alex is home and back at school. He is attending outpatient rehab three times a week and was upright and weight bearing at physical therapy on Friday for the very first time! His road to recovery is still very long but we are encouraged by all of the little bits of progress. Please continue to keep him in your prayers that he will recover fully.
Alex is now finally home with his family! He held himself up for the first time the other day! We are praying for a full recovery! Keep up the great work Alex and to everyone else thank you for supporting my cousin and his family, lets keep it up!
Alex, We will be lifting you and your family in prayer. Jesus is the healer. Keep focusing on Him. He healed me from an something incurable. And He healed my daughter when she cracked her forehead and broke her skull. My beautiful daughter is in the middle of this picture and she is now 15 and worshiping God and showing Him to her generation. We will be praying for you and can't wait to hear good reports!
Thank you all for your generosity. Thank you cards are on their way--we're just trying to gather addresses. Thank you to all the anonymous donors as well. Alex has been at Barrow neurological institute since August 1st. He is making gains each day. He was able to move his fingers for the first time on Saturday. It is great to have him back in Phoenix. His positive attitude is amazing.
Praying for a speedy recovery. Please feel free to visit our site www.disability2mobility.org. We're an AZ based nonprofit for SCI. Please also feel free to call me...my name is Joye 602.620.5103.
Me and my family will pray for your recovery. We spend time in Maui but live in Seattle. I want to reach out and let you know my brother in law was paralyzed neck down, bruised/contusion spinal cord. We learned a lot through this process. A recovery center very unique in the U.S. can help. It is called Pushing Boundaries in Redmond, WA. Please message me on Facebook if you want to discuss. We would love to help. God bless. (Would also love to help a fellow swimmer!)
Thank you to all who have donated so far! It is greatly appreciated your kindness and support for my cousin and his family. They were recently on the news so if you want go to Channel 5's website. They were on I believe it was yesterday or the day before.
