B's Ride: To purchase a ramp van

$15,756 of $40,000 goal

We are trying to raise funds to purchase a ramp van for our 8 year old son, Benjamin, who has spinal muscular atrophy. It is a neuromuscular disease that causes severe muscle weakness. He cannot walk and requires a wheelchair to get around and we need to get him a proper vehicle to travel around in to his doctor appointments and visits with friends and family. Right now we lift Benjamin in and out of our current mini van, but he is getting heavier and it is getting much more awkward to get him in and out. For his own safety and freedom a rear entry ramp van would benefit him and his needs. Ramp vans cost upwards of $60,000.00, which is a very expensive vehicle, but we truly need this for Benjamin.  Thank you for any help you can offer and/or for sharing this link!

We are truly looking forward to purchasing a ramp van for Benjamin by this JULY! This weather of snow and freezing cold has made it impossible for Benjamin to head out anywhere using his power chair; we took the trailer off of the back of the van for the winter months. Benjamin has been very upset that he has to use his manual wheelchair (which he no longer has the strength to wheel himself in and needs to be pushed everywhere - no fun for an eight year old!) and is looking forward to spring when we can attach the trailer on our minivan again. Sadly, Spring means rain, so we can only bring out his power chair if the weather is clear since it will be attached to the outside of our current minivan.

We truly need to get B his van! He is getting heavier and more awkward to lift into our van and get him strapped into his car seat. I am concerned for his safety and mine each time I lift him into the car. Plus that word "freedom" is so important for him!

SO excited to have Panera Bread ( The Howley Bread Group) on board to help support our fundraising efforts to purchase a ramp van for Benjamin! They have already hosted an amazing event for us in January and we raised $2,000!!! Sadly two events had to be postponed due to all the snow! Our next event will be Tuesday, February 24th at the East Greenwich Panera Bread from 5 - 7 PM. Author Jenna Blum will be there to discuss her new book! How exciting! Panera is working on more events to help raise money. Our next car show fundraising event will be Sunday, June 28th at Governor Sprague Mansion in Cranston, RI.

Please share this Go Fund Me account with all your friends! The more we spread the word the sooner we will have the funds to purchase Benjamin a vehicle that will allow him to be free, safe and happy!

Hello Everyone! Thank you to all of you who have been sharing this link to help Benjamin's goal of having a ramp van. We thank those who have donated as well, this is truly a blessing for our family. The final changes for our flyer for the fundraiser are being made and we hope to have that posted in the next day or so on facebook, we hope that many will be able to attend.

An example of how we could really use this van is: Yesterday getting ready for church in the morning I told him he could not bring his power chair to church due to the chance of rain. We have a trailer attached to the back or our minivan that we strap his chair to on nice days, but since it is outside the vehicle and exposed to the elements the times he can bring his chair places is limited. This has worked well for the spring and summer months (when it isn't raining), but when the colder weather and snow begins we will not be able to use the trailer at all :(

He is sad that he has to be "pushed" in his manual wheelchair when he knows he can have the freedom to drive himself. Even though he has a really nice group of friends who are always willing to help him, he wants to be independent.

Please continue to share this link on your facebook page to help Benjamin have his prayer answered to have the freedom most children have.

Thank you again for all your help, kindness and "sharing"!
