Butterscotch's Vet Bill

Butterscotch is my daughter's best friend. They love each other so much.

Last night Butterscotch didn't seem to feel good. It got worse today. She's not eating, even though my daughter tried to feed her by hand.

I spent the day finding everything I could online, and all the advice was the same: get the cat to a vet ASAP.

I made an appointment for tomorrow morning.

But I have no money for a vet bill.

The office visit at Muleshoe Animal Clinic (Muleshoe, TX) is $35, but I have no idea how much any tests might be. I guess it depends on what they find.

And if my daughter's worst fears come true and Butterscotch has to be put down, I don't know what that will cost, but it's NOT going to be the first option if there's any way I can avoid it.

I love this loving little cat, but I love my daughter more and don't want to see her hurting. Please help if you can.

Butterscotch is still improving and getting stronger. She actually ate some dry treats last night- still no regular dry food, though.

Now I just need to make sure I have enough money to cover her follow-up appointment. I'm figuring at least $135 for that since I suspect they'll need to do another blood test. ($35 for the office visit and $100 for the blood test)

Thank you for all the help so far!

I think Butterscotch is improving. She's still not out of the woods- still not eating real food, and feels thin- but she is behaving more normally. She even slept in her favorite chair last night- the chair she shares with my daughter!

She's starting to fight to medicine and saline injections. That makes it hard, but gives me hope.

I was afraid she'd need to make a trip to the vet before her 2 week follow-up appointment, but now I'm thinking she'll avoid that.

I still don't know what caused her problem, or whether her kidneys will recover (and that's the big question) but I am breathing (and sleeping) easier for now.

Thanks for all the help so far. Now I just have to make sure I have enough to cover the cost of her follow-up vet visit and any new blood tests, and maybe that will be the end of the trouble. I sure hope so!

Great news!
Butterscotch licked up a TBSP or more of this Delectables gravy stuff. She's acting a little better! Dare I hope she's turned the corner?

Still don't know how her kidney function is, or if that's what caused the problem in the first place, but one hurdle at a time.

We'll keep offering her Delectables and try to introduce more substantial foods too. But at least she willingly ingested something other than water!

I got a full syringe (10+ mL) of milk replacer into Butters (it didn't make her happy). Then, a couple hours later, she lapped up some drops of "tuna juice" (the water, plus tiny bits from a can of tuna). It's not much, but it's better than nothing.

She still refuses real food, but is still drinking water.

She has gone to the litter box and peed twice that I know of today. No poop. And she walks with her back legs held strangely. Still, her back doesn't seem arched like I had noticed a couple days ago.

She also washed herself-- the first time I've seen her do that in days.
