One, fifteen, sixteen, (1/15/16) the date that changed everything. My grandfather was outside gathering a bundle of items to burn. He set the blaze then stood back admiring his work. Suddenly the blaze seemed to be headed towards the house. In a panic my grandpa did his best to put out the fire, but his efforts were futile. While trying to put out the fire my grandpa fell down hard. The fire eventually reached their home and set off a violent inferno . Taking not only their home but also a nearby vacant trailer home. In a matter of only a couple hours grandmas house was gone...
My grandpa was air lifted to a Corpus Christi hospital, then transported to brook army hospitals burn unit here in San Antonio, TX.
My brother Ivan called me with the horrific news. I pulled over to the side of the road and just cried. All those, holidays, Christmases, Easters, Thanksgivings, and summers I had spent there. I couldn't ever imagine grandmas house up in flames. Many of my most precious childhood memories we're spent at grandmas house. It was difficult for me to take in. I can't even begin to imagine how my grandma must've felt. The house had once belonged to my great grandfather, and for the past 44 years my grandmothers.
All donations are greatly appreciated, no matter how small, every cent helps.
