Burn It All Down is a sports and feminism podcast hosted by sportswriters and historians Jessica Luther, Brenda Elsey, Shireen Ahmed, Amira Rose Davis, and Lindsay Gibbs.
Sports media -- and the sports radio/podcasting world in particular--is overwhelmingly white, cis, and male. And whether it’s on the court, the sidelines, or the executive suite, the patriarchy is still guiding the marketing, media coverage, and business decisions in sports. That often makes us pretty darn angry, and we want to do our part to create change.
Each week we will come together and talk about the issues in sports that mean the most to us, throw some infuriating topics on the burn pile, and lift up our Badass Woman of the Week. We are staunchly committed to bringing a diversity of voices onto the podcast, particularly women of color and members of the LGBTQI community.
We launched the podcast this month, and so far, the support and encouragement has been overwhelming -- plus, we’ve angered some trolls, which means we must be doing something right. But we are doing this independently, and while we dream of a future with advertisers and sponsors galore, that is still a long way off.
To keep Burn It All Down going, and to take it to the next level, we need your help.
We are looking to raise $5,000 to get us started.
We will use the money we raise here to invest in high-quality microphones for the hosts, pay for production assistance and editing software so we can record more frequently and invite more guests onto the show, and market the show so we can grow our audience. This money won’t be lining our pockets -- every dime we raise through GoFundMe will go towards podcast-related expenses. The research, time and work we put in is a humble labor of love and dedication.
Together, we can Burn It All Down, and do our part to make the sports world a more inclusive, fun, and safe space for everyone.
