Burial Services for Bro. Tiran Burrell

Donation protected
It is with great sorrow that the brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. | Epsilon Eta Chapter learned of the death of Bro. Tiran Burrell on June 25, 2019. To ensure a proper transition into the Omega chapter, we are seeking donations to support our dear brother.

Tiran was a dedicated family member, confidante, student, and fraternity brother.

Tiran began his tenure at EMU in the fall of 2008. A true antiquity enthusiast, Tiran declared his major as History. Bro. Burrell crossed the burning sands of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in the Spring of 2010 via Epsilon Eta chapter. Bro. Burrell was a well-respected figure in the EMU community. His legacy on the campus is unparalleled.

Bro. Burrell was passionate about Alpha and diligently worked to enhance the chapter. Bro. Burrell served as Chapter President, Advisor, Dean of Pledges and National Delegate during his incumbency. A true leader, Tiran would go on to attend Alpha Leadership Academy, gaining more leadership skills and graduating as part of the class. A pillar to the EMU community, Tiran also became a prominent  member of the Poetry Society also known as “PS”, which attended multiple CUPSI tournaments and even gained national recognition for phenomenally written pieces of work.

Tiran’s hard work and dedication to his craft and the community did not go unrecognized as he received several awards along the way, including the W.E.B. DuBois NAACP Image Award which is rewarded to a faculty or staff member who has shown the most dedication and work for the betterment of all EMU students. Tiran obtained a B.S. in History in 2015, and even went on to pursue his masters. While doing so, he would assume the role of Graduate Assistant, working in the Diversity and Community Involvement office. Bro. Burrell assisted with the inception of the Unity Ball, was active on the Greg Peoples Scholarship Committee, within the BrotherHOOD Initiative, MLK Committee, and various other organizations on campus.

In addition to his many contributions to campus, Bro. Burrell served as a teacher, educating students in Detroit Public Schools, cultivated African American history while working at the Charles H. Wright Museum, and exemplified what it meant to be a leader and brother to his family.

Tiran is survived by his loving mother, brother, and host of cousins. The loss of a loved one is always difficult. We are truly saddened by the passing of Bro. Tiran Burrell. May his soul rest in peace.
