Us El Mundo al Revés Latin American Film Festival celebrate the historic reality of progressive movements in Latin America and the future they are building for the common good in it.. Our intention is to serve as an incubator for discussion in our community on what we may learn from our brothers and sisters that represent the wide diversity of cultural and ideological approaches to societal transformation not only by latin americans but also by all visible minorities as well as indigenous people. Learning from them inspire Latin American Diaspora communities in Edmonton to participate and contribute to the progressive movement locally and hence our necessity to crowdfund this initiative for the 2016 edition of El Mundo al Revés Latin American Film Festival devoted to Human Rights and First Nations People in Canada.
The festival is organized by the Memoria Viva Society of Edmonton with the support of Cinema Politica.
The selection committee of the festival chooses films in accordance with the values and principles of the Memoria Viva Society of Edmonton, which are:
Solidarity, to continue developing links between Edmonton and Latin American focused on social movements and projects of mutual aid and collective benefit,
Diversity, to respect differing viewpoints and recognize that minority views may lead to innovative approaches in raising consciousness,
Equity, to promote community wealth and income fairness to members and the community at large
Peace with Justice, that peace does not mean the absence of war and that social programming for communities is a necessity in providing strong healthy communities, to advocate all level of government regarding these issues along with other community stakeholders,
Ecological Sustainability and Indigenous Knowledge, to seek human survival and interconnection,
“Democracy” or perhaps even a more inspiring conception of “People’s Power,” “Participatory Democracy,” or “Self Management,” to foster participation and equitable influence for all.
All the funding We'd be able to get will be invested in our upcoming 7th El Mundo al Revés Latin American Film Festival fully, so as to cover all the expenses arising from the logistics of this 2016 edition happening on December 10 2016 as well as those to cover the participation of our performers and artists which is pretty much saying it would be going back to our community, which is what this is all about!
